Far out they are everywhere....Sorrento, Queenscliff, Pt Cook, Williamstown, Blackrock, Bellarine........is this normal or is there some other weird thing happening? Someone told me a lack of rough weather means more eggs turn to squid.

Anyway, todays effort.....

photos like this give sometimes give a false impression of exceeded bag limits and more ammo for the greenies.

As usual post a pic or two and people naturally get worried about "How it Looks".

Well here you go I'll say it...stuff how it looks!

This is fishing! I got up at 430 am, woke up my son, drove two hours, met the others and nailed a nice catch, like we pretty much have done at least once a week since last August except for a break during snapper season.

You reckon if we had two on the boat And took forty calamari I'd be posting it here?

If you wanna know that's my dad and my son, I was washing the boat,
someone else took the pic, plus we had someone else on board for a while, he
got off cos he had to be somewhere, someone else got on, we could've
taken more if we wished.

Yeah we love our squid and eat a shitload of it........its one of a few seafoods my wife loves, so im on a directive from her every week to catch more squid. Beats buying it for $34.99 a kilo as its going for at Coles Taylor's Hill! What a joke the bay is full of them.

Mick SA we've been pretty much bagging every week...two = 20, 4=40 etc. sometimes it takes a few hours, sometimes it takes 8 hours. Its a matter of figuring out where the winds is blowing from and going to where will be protected, persisting, moving around, finding the schools, etc. most importantly it all about having the right jigs. My mates and I have invested in the right jigs in a big way over the last 6 months.

Cheers.

i am right behind ya!! no way i would throw back a squid, when we hit our limit we stop, i eat them quicker than i can catch them... and the small ones make the best bait around....

Well done Mick,
I think there is an average amount of squid in the bay. I have always caught them readily HOWEVER I think you have got em nailed with your techniques and locations, if you fish every week for them like I do the whiting, I would expect you would bag out most time. I had a good crack at the squid this morning but only got three early in the run off tide, more than enough for bait and onto the whiting but I have yet to see them thick this year but I don't try hard for em, only fish 1-2 reliable bait marks close to home.

As for taking your bag, this is what people fish for, and calas are bread and butter, reward for effort in my book. Well done and thanks for sharing.

PS some of the biggest whiting I have caught today, almost all over 40cm
and fat!

Hey Jon no worries don't stress just of late because of the detractors many good fisherman have gone off this site, many no longer report or show pics, I am saying we all love to fish, we should do what we love and proud of it, I for one get inspired and motivated when guys I know have a ripper session and tell me about it.

Craig, I keep saying I need to get into the ting, I used to many years ago before we started chasing snapper, when I had my first boat and never travelled far, now I'm dedicated to this squid or egi fishing call it what you will, I love it plus the culinary side of it is a bonus, unfortunately all of my squid fishing is done on the drift so I cannot do both. Love to see some of your pics from today.

Great catch.. seems theyre in numbers these days. I usually catch and typically lose count. I go way over my limit and then fish them out of the live bait well and keep my limit then let the rest go at the boat ramp.
Your right about the egi thing.. Totally changed squid fishing for me.
