never had a prob with using 1/0 hooks, carp have big gobs!
They may seem big, but using the KL style, always hooks them in the mouth, not down the guts. I usually put 4 corn kernals on and leave the barb exposed.

I used a big lip grip to hit it and binned it. I will check out the hook styles and if i can get some i'll try it out.

I fish for carp everytime I go anywhere near fresh water, which is a few times a week and I've been doing so for over 15 years with good success rates... My weapon of choice is a hand reel or cheap rod from kmart (something that I won't be upset about if I get a hard hitter that runs before I can get a hold of the rod) spooled with 20lb line, It really doesn't matter, they aren't fussy.. size 1/0 mustad baitholder and white bread squashed firmly on the hook with the barb just breaking through, running sinker rig and it's important to have drag set correctly if your using a rod, they are sportfish after all.. No need to hook them, when they take it just put weight on them and the hook will set itself..
I don't fish for carp for any reason other than to get the bastards out of the water and a bit of fun between hits on the spinners.. but thats what works for me in my area and it hasn't changed in many years.. If they are cautious about taking the bait, try a little tuna oil on the bread, that sometimes can entice a bite on a slow day..

I'll give you a quick run down of what works for us mate.
I spool the kids reels up with 6lb line, I set them up with a running sinker size 0 to a small swivel, leader is 8lb mono tied to a #10 dry fly hook I use the Kamasan these are chemically sharpened. One piece of corn on the hook is heaps, Plenty of berley using corn, or I do a mix of breadcrumb, flour, dijon mustard and corn kernels. Add water until you can make a solid ball then throw it like you were trying to skim a rock across the water. 20min normally gets you as many carp mooching around to keep you occupied for a while. The important thing I've found when the kids are fishing for them at home is to cast out and not take up the slack, leave a good foot to two feet of slack line, it's important because if there is a bit of weed or debris on the bottom tightening your line tends to drag it under all the crap, this applies to many other aspects of fishing I do. The carp will take the bait with no tension, you just set the hooks when it pulls up tight. The best way to lose the carp is tighten your drag, they have soft mouths but about 1kg of drag should see them flapping on the bank, the hooks are small and light so you just need to go the gentle gentle approach on them. The kids have a ball and so do all their friends. Good luck

Try a size 6 or 8 gamakatsu octopus and a single piece of corn on 6lb they work great for me. Don't buy cheap hooks in these size's they will bend and break on the larger fish.
