Math I saw was roughly 6k per person to keep the plants running ie people employed for another 10k years.
They will pay a shit load more tax than 6k over 10 years so it looks like a win win. But the Austrlian automotive industry is at end of life, putting more money into it seems like a waste as it will not be sustainable long term.
Would we be better off investing the same amount of money into a new industry that if successful would be sustainable for 50 years and generate more revenue and employe more people in the long run. I think we would.
Will the executives at Holden Australia be taking a pay cut until the company returns to profitability?
Will Holden re-pay these taxpayer grants?
Will the Federal government claim a share of ownership as a result of this injection of cash?
Will additional injections of cash be granted next year?!!!
Sorry to say for the staff they employ, but subsidising a dying industry with taxpayer BILLIONS to produce cars nobody wants to buy does NOT make us the clever country.
Anyhooooo back to QLD... where its beautiful one day....
...and so eager to ditch their Premier that theyre prpepared to elect a bloke who wasnt even in the parliament into the top job... the next.
Im guessing Jools wont be visiting the Sunshine State for a looooooong time.

All good points, but, this country has already lost so much of its manufacturing base and ability to manufacture basic products ie. Stainless steel, what should be allowed to go next?
From what Onesteel and Bluescope used to produce, and what's happening in their companies, I wouldn't be surprised if they close all Aus. manufacturing plants and just import. That's our major steel industry gone overseas.
There is nothing smart about this country, if everything manufactured or value added, eventually has to come from overseas.
Booming exports of raw materials are fooling some that this country is going well enough for a destructive carbon tax.
An NBN that will offshore IT even better(or worse) than now.
It's a real shame that we have to wait 18 months for a similar result federally.

This federal govermnet is soooooo eager to cut REAL jobs go.... supposedly to be taken up by "green jobs" that simply dont exist.... and slog taxpayers for the privelidge.
All because Bob tells her to.
HE and his party need as big a brick batting as the ALP do. _________________ How's the serenity....
(in-ep-toc'-ra-cy) - a system of government where the least capable to lead are elected by the least capable of producing, and where the members of society least likely to sustain themselves or succeed, are rewarded with goods and services paid for by the confiscated wealth of a diminishing number of producers.
Carbon Tax=>
redistribution of wealth from the most successful and efficient producers in our society to slush fund the deliberate waste by the most unsuccessful and inefficient members of our society.
Somebody must know about the second law of thermodynamics and why Carbon Dioxide can't possibly be the cause of atmospheric heating.
I'm no expert on the subject but I found this debate helpful,
A measured rise in global water vapor percentage actually coincides with the rise in global temperature, a correlation Co2 in history hasn't duplicated, and a lot harder to tax.

You can thank the union minded people for that turning this country into a bunch of woose pussers.
Allways demanding that which is not theirs
Aust has become a very non productive country riding on the back of mining & the farmer
So what does idiot gillard do
Stops cattle exports & gives the mining industry a nice new tax
A good case of Gillardnomics _________________ **************************

Another instant of corrupt ALP governing this time NSW state politics
I've been bitching for past 4 years in regards to land tax/council rates both of which are determined by land value of a property was very close to taking legal action against the nsw govn
Report on the news said previous ALP govn & valuerer generals office grossly over valued properties in a bid to raise revenue for the govn
Tis something i've been saying for past 4 years when my rates more than doubled overnight costing me a small fortune in the proccess
Eager to see what the current govn investigation will produce _________________ **************************

Regarding Holden , it is common for all Governments to subsidise industry with no readily apparent return on investment.
The Victorian Grand Prix is one example. The hope is that indirect benefits will warrant the outlays and they probably do albeit that an actual measure is probably beyond calculation .
Jay , your assertions would not stack up in Victoria. The Valuer General is a State appointment. Municipal rates are based on values determined by Council Valuers. Council strike a Rate by determining what percentage of the land value will used. Valuation multiplied by percentage equals amount to be paid.
The Municipal valuation is used by the State Revenue office to determine State land Tax which is not applicable to you primary place of residence. _________________ An open mind beats an open tackle box
