I am heading up to EDEN on friday for 10 days and would like some advise.

I will chase the flatties, leather jackets and gummies with the wife and kids. then my brothers and I will be chasing Kingies and the like for the first time off Eden so any pointers would be fantastic.

What gear (knife jigs, lures, etc.... ) would be best. Or are livies better especially for the kingies. What areas are more productive?

I would like to followup from the Tuna we caught of Port Mac a couple of weeks ago. Unfortunately we are hooked!!!!!

We'll be there Saturday two weeks, three boats, im in the blue Formula 21 with the Etec, be sure to say Hi.

Last year we got 60 kings, 15 over a slow 7 or 8 days, then 45 in three days when they went nuts, live baits on circes worked for us. One day I had left soap in my live bank tank when washing the boat, next day every livie was dead by the time we got to Mowarry pt, it didn't matter we pinned them thru the head, tails wherever, and landed 21 fish to ten kilo, released several, that was our best day. When they are on they are on. Jigging works well if you have the energy.

I have known three seperate crews that have been there and back over the last month, they all did poorly, was some wild weather a few weeks ago, it has been ordinary for the most part but with more settled weather it seems to be coming good, today was pretty good from reports, fingers crossed.

What boat you in and where you staying?

I agree with Wildfish last year was awesome, we got 60 in one session at Greencape on the jigs. They went absolutely nuts that one day smashing anything we could throw at them, we had five or six 4 way hookups and they smashed anything you threw at them. We were all absoltuely stuffed after that day but we were there again the next and landed about 20 then left because we were all rooted from the previous day. It's impossible to know when they'll go off they are so unpredictable, just get out there whenever the weather permits and give it a crack, all you need is a little bit of luck on your side it can be the difference between 5 and 50 fish.

I generally find a few days either side of the moon and an hour or two either side of the tide change (high or low) seems to produce good results. Just can’t pick what they will bite on the day so we generally take both live bait and jigs. Have had limited success recently with Lucanis jigs and Californian squid when we ran out of live bait.
Good luck, see you out there at Easter the full is on the Saturday so there should be some good fishing.
Cheers Brett.

Safe trip to all heading down over Easter & school hols. Mother in Law is really keen to spend 3-4 nights at Eden for a well-deserved Holiday.

As the kids won't be coming (looking after houses) I'll probably go down without the boat unhappy-fish.gif I was going to take fishing gear and fish beaches & piers.

If anyone has room for an extra on a trip out could you PM me? Of course I would pay my way happy-fish.gif happy-fish.gif

Hi all a quick live Eden update, kings are very spasmodic, they turned on today for a quick bite around half an hour, we got zip, most got 0, 1, or 2 it shut down real quick. Yesterday was a good birthday for me, dad and I got 5 nice kings to 8.5 kg, dropped three, Four on livies one on a jig. They came on just before lunch, by which time most had run out of live baits, had we more livebaits we would have taken more, my cousin and his crew have gone 2, 3, 2 with the kings in three days. Bonito are everywhere around the headlands and I'm looking forward to a trolling bay day where we can stock up on bonnies, salmon, etc....until now it has been hard, early out for livebaits, cos they vanish after sun-up, then to Mowarry for Kings, long days and hard work but all worth it when they turn on. Had a sick crewman today, trolled back and got a dozen bonnies and a salmon in around 30 minutes, I wanted to keep trolling but he was really unwell unhappy-fish.gif plenty around, tomorrow morning back out on the kings yet again laughing-fish.gif

Gday mick when we were there last week most struggled for livies but
we were fortunate to find considerable schools at the shore end (sthn)
of the Naval Pier right beside the beacon and on the internal side
also, perfect sizes too!!
Only problem was Kingy69 and Gozzy were letting the team down laughing-fish.gif laughing-fish.gif
Goodluck

Mick if you get a nice flat/calm morning, some excellent bait right in against the rocks in the small rocky coves just south of South Head/Boyd Tower - big juicy Yakkas that stay alive really well, and only a couple of kays from Mowarry so you can always go get some more during the morning/day if conditions permit
