Damian. I'm well thanks mate. Had the bone scan done yesterday, except for missing the vein and using me as a pin cushion everything went as planned.
Going for a CT abdomen and pelvic scan next week ( have to look it up and see what it involves ) and starting the radiation in June.

Hope your mum inlaw pulls through OK.

Frank

Thanks to all those who have posted so far, its take courage for blokes to talk about their problems. I don't know why this is the case but this forum is a good start and who knows, could save some ones life.

On that point, Nimrod, if your happy to post it, what symptons or problem happened that made you go to the doc, that lead them to find prostrate cancer ? If you don't want to post that info, I understand.

To ironmaiden, sorry to hear about you M-I-L, that sux big time. sounds like she has a great atitude. I lost my mum as kid to a brain tumour. That was back in 84. We have come a long way since then but we still seem so far away from a cure for this insidious disease.

On that note, I need to go fishin, life's too short.

Greg. Don't mind talking about it and the doc said it's the best thing blokes should do and that's talk about it with other blokes.
I had a pretty severe heart attack in March 07 and since then have been having regular blood tests, the last blood test in September revealed a high level of some medical term ( have all the paper work somewhere ) that meant I should have more tests.
I went and seen a cancer specialist and he done an examination on me and couldn't find anything positive, so he sent me to have a biopsy which is a proceedure where they take small samples from the prostate and diognose, this turned out to be positive, and as a lead up more tests have to be done, had bone scan and next week having abdominal scan.
IF these extra tests prove negative, then I start radiotherepy on 6th June. a series of 39 treatments after having target seeds implanted into my prostate. Should my latest tests show other problems, well just have to wait and see.
Nothing happens fast with this sort of medical treatment, and as I am on a pension and not paying the costs ( which some on here treat as scumbag bloodsucking bludgering along with a few more harsh words ) I just have to go along with whenever the doctors can fill me in to do the treatment.

I don't look at it being a big deal, as it's just part and parcel of life, and it's a pretty common thing these days and the doc's treat it like removing an ingrown toenail of something similar, they do that many of these things now days it comes as second nature to them.

BTW the normal symptoms to Prostate cancer is not having a good flow of urine, getting up several times a night and only leaking without pressure, not being able to hold on and wait befor peeing and then the above, there are other symptoms but these are the signs to look for.
Funnyly I didn't have these symptons so I think they have caught it in it's early stages.
They say after the treatment I should be free from prostate cancer for 10-15 years.
The treatment does usually effect your sex life and there will more than likely be some shrinkage of the man tool

Good to hear frank. Next time when you’re having blood tests ask for the small butterfly cannula needle (Yellow) they are the best! Due to the cost probably being $3.00 opposed to .50c for the normal ones they try not to use them. Super sharp, small, and hair like thin. You just need a nurse who can drive. happy-fish.gif

Tonight’s my last needle in stomach Thank Truck.

Thanks for answering questions on prostate cancer.

If you can, keep us in the loop.

Cheers

Damian

Thanks for posting Frank. The new F&B boat mag, has a an article in it and the builder of the boat talks, in a side article, about his prostate cancer. He said his PSA was low and within normal limits but had biopisy done anyway and it saved his live.

All good info frank and hope your treatment goes well. Keep us posted.

My job has helped me to get over going to the Doc. I must have a current medical certificate, which means a dr visit every two years is mandatory, full blood tests, ecg, eyes checked, piss in the cup, poke and a prod, plus a two page questionaire with Dr before they will sign off on it.

Its a hassle but good to keep on top of things. Early detection is the key.

19th Jan 2012 doc rings me up and says come in she would like to see me,thinking it is due to my cholesterol,I had blood test a few days prior, sit down she says, your blood results are back, chronic lymphocytic leukemia she tells me.
I had heard of leukemia though I never knew what it really was all about,I do know though.
If anyone else here has the same would like to hear from you, just to compare what you may be doing to help it from increasing in it,s stages.
Watch and wait at present, they watch my blood counts,I wait.

How's it going Andy? I hope all is well mate happy-fish.gif

Went to docs for blood test results and prescriptions needed. Before I went I thought over 40 I should ask about prostate check, I asked and he did examination. It didn’t take long.

I hope all have a good Easter.

Cheers

Does anyone have "trauma cover insurance"??
Where if you are diagnosed with severe illness or have stroke / heart attack, you receive lump sum payout to help your recovery?
