Anyone know anything about vintage wine and what it might be worth ?.
I have 1 only bottle Lindamans Auburn burgundy bin 4220 vintage 1972.
This is the very rare 710ml bottle and is in excellent condition throughout
the label may be slightly faded but hard to tell as I can't remember how bright the colours were back in 1972.
I am going to put it on ebay this week and thought there maybe someone here that might be able to give me some clue as to how much to start the auction at.
This is not for drinking, collectors item only.
Will take photo tomorrow and post label etc.

Frank

It's made @ a vinyard frank

They use a big barrel throw all the grapes in
Then they take off the socks & shoes to reveal their smelly foots
Jumpus into the barrel & stomp on the grapes generally to background music the macarena is a popular tune

Frank judging by the prices on Ebay of other collectables I reckon $100 would be lucky, unless it is truely very rare.

Sadly I think most people don't realise a lot of these wines were made to be enjoyed. Not so long ago I bought a 65/66 and 68 Grange off a fella who had carefully cellared them. Bloody delicious!

Drink em while you can. laughing-fish.gif

Thanks guys for your input.
Seen this on ebay and although it is a different wine and it hasn't sold it shows that the seller must be of the impression that it may be worth something around his asking price.
Not saying what I have is worth anywhere near this amount, it could be or it could be worth a lot more, only a collector would know.

If I could get $100 I would be happy.
Personally i wouldn't pay $10 for any bottle of wine, don't drink the stuff myself, bloody grape juice.

Sorry Frank, I can’t help you out on that. I’m with EatMtPilchard, wine is to be enjoyed – Some just enjoy it more than others laughing-fish.gif laughing-fish.gif

Frank that wine the Grange is a true collectable. Not only for investment purposes but those wines can be kept that long and longer and drink real good. Although the buyer is taking a great risk as it looks a bit low on volume which can be quite normal, but allows increased risk of early oxidation. Also the owner for all we know may have stored it next to his heater in the lounge room and it may taste a bit like XXXX.

I rang Youngs Auctions recently as I want to get rid of an antique table and chairs. They advised the antique market is very low. I would assume the wine market would follow the antiques market pretty closely.

If you have no need for it whack it on ebay with a long auction time. The market will confirm its value.

Good luck.

Has it been stored correctly. ie, no major fluctuations in temperature. Does the cork have any evidence of leakage.
I'm predicting it may have passed it's use by date. Not all red wines are made for long term cellaring.

Also found this one, although it's Penfolds at least it does show me that there are people out there that will bid on a bottle of old wine.

http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/1970-Penfolds-Grange-Hermitage-Red-Wine-RRP-1200-/150790795900?pt=AU_Food&hash=item231bd4f27c

The bottle I have has been stored in cellar all it's life, no sign of leakage, and has never been stood up, always layed on it's side/back, so cork has always been in fluid .
However there is one very small scratch on the glass itself above the lable which is it's only imperfection.

Thanks for any help, not asking a lot for it so will put it on ebay and see what happens.

As I said it's not for drinking, it's a collectable for purposes for whatever collectors do with such things.

Frank
