Oldtimer,
You might need to watch full on fishing adventures again I think mate... The disclaimer was the advice we sought from fisheries themselves when we asked them about using the footage. No one scooped at anything but the hooked fish, as the smaller juvenile males were all over the big female, busily trying to make baby fishes, as it hit the landing net. (all fish released btw)
I can't believe you are having a crack at a catch and release event when we still have gut and gill comps running frequently in the region. I hope your busy writing letters to the organisors of those events with your worldly advice!
You may have to also look into how the comps you have mentioned are won and run aswell, as your idea of how it all works is incorrect. Do they not have a prize for the biggest cod any more??
Sorry, apologies, I have re read your ramblings and concur you have noted they still have a prize for the biggest fish. ( my apologies, it's just that I usually skim read crap...)
The minimal amount of fish fatalities associated with this catch and release comp is far out weighed by the $100,000's of dollars raised, all designated to bettering our inland waterways through restocking, resnagging and educational projects.
Go write some letters to the gut and gill comp committes, and perhaps even fisheries themselves, as we have liased closely with them in setting up this event which they have even described as " an example as to how others should run their comps".... I can give you the DPI's comp/events management section trlephone number if you think you can better advise them Old Timer?
However,Keep picking at the nits... You'll soon run out.
P.S- did you notice all the Marshall's use DPI issued bragmats that were donated by them, after advising the committee On how best to run the 100 % not for profit classic?
Thanks for your reply Matt.
I can see there is no way of having a reasonable discussion with you as you presume you are always right. My apologies for having a say on the discussion.
You are right thou as they still have a prize for the biggest cod at the Çod Classic' but even if you catch a legal cod or yellow belly they are measured and released before counting toward the comp, at which stage you still have a chance of winning a prize, would seem more people enter there catch.
Your event is a great comp to raise money for restocking the area, in which I applaud, just may be a little better if more fish are caught and released
As to the DVD I know and everyone else that i know has watched it has seen what we seen and as with all the fishing rules it's open to your interpretation. That's great that all fish were released I guess that they should have never made it in the net to start!
I would write to all the other (gut and gill comp committes) as you put it around the area if I knew about them. I'm sorry but the Burrendong classic seems to the one you have been discussing.
Once again I'm sorry that I don't hold your view's on everything, I guess that if it's not your way it's the waterway for me!
It's just that when the fantastic fisheries officers that we do have are too understaffed to attend major breaches of the FMA, within 15 minutes of a Major centre like dubbo, people start to get the s$%ts and start to ask why... Which then naturally leads to further questions... why do we see discarded Setlines all the time? Why do we find abandoned drum nets in the Dubbo CBD? Why is the trend to fish illegally in the states back yard so common? Why have native fish stocks diminished by 70-90% since European settlement? Why do the compliance rates seem to be so grossly inaccurate compared to what we see and witness in the field?? How long has that restaurant been selling illegally caught Murray Cod from our local river in Dubbo, untill an "anonomous" member of the public tipped them off??
3 Staff assigned to cover 20% of Nsw is a joke. The poor buggers can't put a dent in it! That's what this thread is about.
I put the question back to you old timer, how much are you doing for our fishery? I would love to compare notes. Perhaps you could around for a longneck this arvo and help me do the paperwork for the $20,000 worth of fingerlings we are ordering, or go through some of the operational procedure for a possible resnagging venture thRat the IWRA is looking to write a cheque out for thanks to the classic? All volunteer time though pal, with the only pay cheque being a sense of achievement, and complimentary tossers thrown in to hang s%#t on you while they sit by and do f#%k all!
I notice you joined fishnet only a few days ago as well mate! My bet is you are somehow involved with compliance and have only joined to try and sling mud at my character to soften the blow of the truth... I smell a rat boys!!
Thanks for the invitation for a beer but I will leave all that up to you.
Just to clarify a few things
I have been a member here for some 4 to 5 years under another username (I don't wish to have the spot light).
I have nothing to do with the fisheries department and I have nothing to gain by making comment but last time I checked it was a free country.
I agree that Fisheries are under staffed and I do my bit in my own special way.
I just think you like the Public Grand Standing too get your point across, that's not my style! May be making an appointment to talk to a senior person in Fisheries may be a better way to help than having a slagging or slinging match in the paper or a public forum.
I have my point of view, you have yours. No one is right or wrong. I have learned form your point of view I hope that mine have helped you.
Dodgy dodgy dodgy.... See through you blokes like glad wrap!
I have talked to senior fisheries staff you idiot, many times! Then when the questions get hard they will not reply, respond, and tell you to put your questions to the media department where they are buried for months, and then they only provide partial text book crap answers!
This has all been going on for over a year, and the only time we have had any form of real action is when we got a public petition going and made the general public aware of just how dodgy published compliance rates really are in the media!
P.S- No one is buying your bull s#%t allias excuse.... You better not be on fishnet in the office tomorrow wasting taxpayers dollars....
I wish I was a betting person, I'd clean up! You could not be further from the truth about me. I'm not hear to
You can believe what you like, it does not really worry me. I am not selling my excuse but thanks for the offer. I wont be on the internet tomorrow at work bit hard to take my computer with me, it does not work out side.
It would how ever seem to be true about you from the stories that I have been told going off, name calling, throwing accusations about with out finding the truth.
Silly thing is thou that I agree we need more field officer's out there, I just don't agree with some of the ways you go about it! I did not even hear about the petition that you ran, but hay what would I know, I'm only an idiot (according to you)!
In life there is more ways and means of getting what you want, and as the saying goes 'you will get more bee's with honey than with vinegar'
