Thrillseeker dont worry you can have it. Must add that SWR would have to be one of the best places along the NSW coast i have ever fished. Cheers Phil. |
Mate, I hate it with a passion too, just can't read it, dive boats and even the charters have tipped on this bar and they do it at least twice a day.
I just stay at home now, better to be safe and shitty, than unsafe and really sorry. |

never found out what it was but looked like a small marlin or big Spanish mack |

| The ultimate folly is traversing bars at night, which I have known people to do, not always with happy results. |

At times the bar at McLoughlins Beach is probably the worst crossing you'll ever have to make in Victoria.
Very narrow and shallow passage and you usually have to pass it quarter on. Steep fronted waves to 3m and close sets are not uncommon there. _________________

i have to cross a bar every trip ,southport seaway is pretty safe ,but still catches out the inexperienced.
i always watch the tides if the swell is over 2m as the run out tide will all ways create pressure waves.
the boat in that brunswick heads video had no idea,he should of just picked a wave and sat on the back of it all the way in ,letting the wave behind catch up on you will most likely end up in a roll over like in the video.
as for the wooli video ,they should of headed 45 degrees where the waves wernt breaking, again inexperienced.
there is no better teacher than a sea doo and a few years experience surfing the bar with it imop |

Sounds like you are describing the Manns beach bar. Both are very close to each other providing access to the same fishing grounds. They are slightly different directions so pending on the conditions either can be better or worse on the same day.
I haven't used either in a little over 10 years so they could have shifted and be very different now but when we did, McLoughlin's was wider and deeper and easier to navigate. |

Bar crossings are probably the most dangerous thing that most boaters will ever encounter, it's something no-one can practice as every time is different.
Would it be useful to start another thread and get people's opinion about how it should be done and info about how they cross their local bar?
I see so many come from Vic. to SWR for a once a year trip only to see it end in tears.
I know everyone here knows how to do it but there are plenty that don't and are embarrassed to ask. |
