True the around town figures are almost impossible to repoduce but the HWY figure is often very accurate for petrol vehicles. The diesel HWY figures are way below what is achieved in real world.

My 2008 120 TD Prado (auto) was quoted as 9.7 or 9.3l / per 100, it will do it but you have to drive it like you are looking for economy to get it, drive it at more than 105km/h & it won't get under 10 l/ 100kms. Having said that, it doesn't do any worse than 13 towing the boat or van & driving it hard at the same time.

Just to add to my previous post my brother has a bull bar and driving lights. Increases air resistance and higher fuel consumption.

Sounds pretty good to me but driving particularly when towing greatly effects fuel economy. My brother consumption was a lot higher (I don't have an exact figure) with a 1500kg alloy run about on the back.

You're dead right about the bullbar & driving lights affecting economy, even the factory Toyota bar which is probably the most aerodynamic looking ( not saying it's the best looking) bar for my model has definately changed the economy for the worse.

Nev, how have the later model 3 litre Patrols held up in relation to reliability?

Probably asking the wrong man mate, we don't see any in the shop at all lately, seen a few early ones with issues years ago, haven't even heard any reliable feedback to make a fair comment on them sorry. The word is they have improved as far as I know.

We have a 150 series diesel auto D4D Prado, tows 2000kg just fine, fuel economy is great for its size. Regulalry get 9-9.5l/100km and can drop that to 8.5 on the highway at 100k on cruise control.

Towing 2 ton of BMT with a 3.2m height (lots of windage) uses 14.5 to 16.5l/100km, and will drag it all day at 110kmh without any concerns.

It has 70K on the clock now and no issues of note to date.

Like a car to ride in, and generously proportioned interior, one of the teenagers is 6'5" and has plenty legroom behind me with seat fully back.

Can't comment on the Patrol, but happy with the Prado. That said, there is a price difference to consider also.

Cheers

Thy

I've got a 2001 Patrol ,,the ones that are suppose to blow up... Think it depends how you drive and often you change the oil. I've never had a problem with mine and its just ticked over 250,000km. I tow a streaker 545 fine and in fifth on the high way.

Prado's are more comfortable on the road, But the Nissan has a very strong clutch that comes in handy at the ramp.

Both good vehicles if you ask me.

I have a 2002 Patrol 3ltr t d 5spd manual that i purchased in 2004 with 56000 ks on the clock.

Very limited budget and I wanted something to tow the boat and all family gear while not drinking my wages around town.

It now has 198000 ks on it, I have just had the injectors done.

It is standard, no modifications, I get it serviced reguarly and I have had no issues.

The gap between 2nd and 3rd is a pain at times.

Economy is good, towing my Explorer 570 knocks it a bit but it is very comfortable.

I would buy another one tomorrow.
