Hi folks, I purchased a new boat over 6 weeks ago (still havent taken it out yet unhappy-fish.gif ) its a TABS 5100 Territory Pro with a DF115 Suzuki. All brand new, and it was fitted with a GM1 10 display for all the tacho, speed, temp, heading etc with Suzuki interface. It also has a Garmin GPS 17? antenna.

Being a bit of a fussy bugger, I bought a second GMI 10 so I could monitor Tach and other functions at the same time ie: tach and fuel, tach and heading etc.

on dissassembling the standard fitup, I noticed that the GMI 10 had a NMEA 2000 cable attached, as well as a NMEA 0183 cable, but the 0183 cable only has power and earth wires attached. I hooked all up and for some reason nothing with power up with the NMEA 2000, but one GMI 10 will power up if I have the NMEA 0183 cable hooked up, but, the other GMI 10 wont.

I have checked the NMEA 2000 (yellow) power cable and it appears to be all good, I have check the fuse, all good, it appears to be getting power. I cannot understand why there would be a NMEA 0183 cable hooked up when it should all power up and work with only NMEA 2000???

If anyone can assist it would be greatly appreciated, I cant understand why I have to have both NMEA 0183 connected and NMEA 2000, I am under the impression that they are two completely different networks......

Oh, and I have swapped the NMEA 0183 over the the new GMI 10 and that works, but the original doesn't, and vica versa......

OK, I think I have it sorted...... some earlier? model GMI 10's need a power cable also, and it would appear that both models I have require the aditional power cable (which hooks to the NMEA 0183 plug)

so for those looking at purchasing a GMI 10, just be wary of this,

serial numbers for additional power cable: N19wxxxxxx

serial numbers for power via NMEA 2000: N1Y3xxxxxx

hope this asssits anyone else so they dont get as frustrated as what I did!!!
