| take a few bags of Berkley gulp 3" minnows in nuclear chicken. find some reef 3-4m of water and fish the last hour of the daylight. light jig head 1/8 with a size 1 or 2 hook. be sure to have a light leader on too say 4-6lb. don't be surprised if you encounter a few larger ones though. i have been spearing there a few weeks ago and there were some absolute honkers which was a surprise. |

mate can't help you on the bait front. the only time i use bait is if i take the wife and kids out for a touch of whiting action. other than that im all plastics. if you fish the right time of day and the right spots you will get a fish a cast as theres lots around.
if im on the hunt for decent pinkies i dont even bother til the last hour of the day. they turn ferral on dusk. |

Am thinking of trying for some pinkies with plastics next weekend. Will try just on dusk as suggested. What's the best action for catching them? Is it to drift and cast long and hop them off the bottom? Or anchor up and berley? Have not tried soft plastics for snapper before? Thanks in advance _________________ Josh..

anchor up and berley and have a big bait out as bigger ones will be around. |

Thanks for the reply. So are you meant to fish the plastics off the bottom? If so how do you stop snagging up in the reef? Also are you meant to cast long or simply jig them off the side of the boat. Sorry for the stupid questions but have never fished plastics in port Phillip before or for snapper For that matter. Thanks _________________ Josh..

Fishing at ancor in that depth, not too hard to work a plastic close to the bottom.
With burley trailing out the back, best bet it cast out back and work up the burley trail.
Watch out for Sammy. loves a plastic hooked red!!
