|
|
G'day rodbuilders,
I've got a couple of older blanks that I want to make into surf rods. One is a Snyderglas FSU4120 and the other is a Butterworth FSU 6120.Just wondering what guides to put on the 6120, looking at using Fuji.On other rods I built many years ago I used the Fuji guides that have the green shock ring.I don't see the need for K frame guides, just good heavy guides that will take some punishment.
The 6120 is VERY heavy in action with an inch or two cut from the tip, was previously used as a throwing stick for turfing shark baits out in the closer gutters.I also have a fibreglass extension that is 5 feet long (taken from another rod that got broken) that I'm going to put in it, with a foot or so cut off.I want to use it with an ABU 10,000 and around 30lb mono, maybe even heavier, for sharks up to 6ft.Will be using up to 7oz sinkers and large baits.
Any ideas on the guides would be most welcome.
Thanks,Darren |

| I would go the BMNAG, although some surfcasters swear by the lowriders (BLCAG). These models are both with the alconite ring, but there are SiC alternatives if you want to spend a bit more. |

Yep, good mid range guide ring.
For a bit of extra bling you could get the chrome frame CHMNAG guides CHMNAT tip |

Ended up getting the BMNAG guides..I got some ProWrap brand thread.Going to do metallic gold underbinding with a darkish green over, called Evergreen (no, not doing those colours 'cause of the Olympics).Very happy with Mudhole, stuff was up to 1/3 of what I'd pay here in Australia! |

Not good John.
I recently bought stuff from Mudhole and found their service excellent.
Stuff got here in six days... not bad considering my last purchase from Coffs Harbour took nine days.

Ive had great service from a few US companies but now 2 rod supply joints have screwed me... Mudhole where down right unproffesional and 2nd rate.and tried blaming me LOL FFS as if you would send all your details to someone you dont know , damn swamp people Fk em!!!
Next lot are taking forever to reply to a simple email. that Ive now sent 3 times .. the USA where oncer regarded as the service nation.. seems thats a thing of the past .
Anybody know a good outlet for calstar blanks without paying $90 too much as Australian companies seem to want.
