Australian recreational angler’s catch of SBT across SA, Vic Tas and NSW equates to 6% of Australia’s commercial total allowable catch (DPI research2011/2012), New Guinea catches five times more tuna than Australia’s total commercial production of all its fish (all species), just a few days ago a massive USA tuna purse-seine fleet has paid USD$630 million dollars to Pacific Islands to catch more than 4 times Australia’s total fish production, in the Coral Sea, while Australian fishers are being locked out of this very area, I can assure you that neither New Guinea and this USA purse-seine fleet have got the regulations or strict rules related to buy catch that the Australian fishers have to abide by.
On the bright side we will still be allowed to buy our Tuna from these other countries that will increase their effort now that we have created a guaranteed market for them back here. While Australia has the best fishing practices in the world both commercial and recreational, we are a net importer of sea food.
The environmental NGOs propaganda crap is working so well even some anglers are starting to sing there songs now. |

| I certainly agree with saying No but some facts and figures to back up the no need to change would certainly help. |

Simple...$$$/kg "contributed" by RecFishos , as a direct injection to the Economy.
imo , NEVER "fall" for the pay-per-species "cardtrick"
Ramifications are "endless"

One thing I do wonder but doubt exists;
Since tuna quotas are currently agreed at ICCAT internationally, do any of these countries have their recreational numbers included in quotas? Do any rec fishos from these countries have to pay for their catch? _________________

Thanks Dale. The second part of your answer is a bit of a concern. _________________

yes Damian it is mate and have heard mourmorings along these lines from a NSW peak body member so i will say no more
lets just get a couple of things straight
The SBTs stocks were commercially overfished before we knew any better (not recreationally overfished) this is not a shot at the commercial sector and i sympathyse with anyone who make a living from the sea providing it is managed accordingly (like it is now)
the CCSBT mob have increaded the quota by 30% for commercials for the next 3 years and will increase it every year until at least 2020 So why pick on rec fishing if its not to A. please some ill informed tree huggers or B. for financial gain
We dont want further regulation or restrictions >>we just want assurances that we can do what we are doing within our current limits
So dont go too hard on the OLE BEAR lol his heart and head is in the right place and he has had my back a few times

Gee Guys
Dropped back in here to have a look , been a while eh"
last time I tried to inform people about what I knew, got shot down
badly.
anyhow , Australia signed papers on agreemenst on the catch of SBT
which should of included all catches (Rec's included) talk came up years back about making Recs buy quota to cover their catches ,
I emailed them as a Rec and said great idea fantastic , lets do it as long as , As a Quota buyer I get the same rights as the commercial sector
and can export them , this went down like a lead balloon.
but they dropped that idea , but then they realised that ok ,SFA's will still be needed and surveyed vessel and commercial tickets to sell ya catch.
Now its back , from what I heard cause of the agreement that was signed.
and the fact they dont want to simply give any quota to Recs.
like I have always said Pro's and Rec's need to work together ,but we know that is never going to happen , so I reckon as a Rec SBT will be lost forever.
anyhow hgood luck with it
Cheers Steve |
