There has been a lot of rumors circulating around HORBA of some very special historical boats coming up for sale here in the states.
People are looking to raise some cash for their own businesses and are looking to unload some stuff due to the financial state of affairs.......
Is there anyone down there that would have an interest in some of these boats.....PLEASE don't connect us with someone who will cut something up for fishing or put 4 outboards on the back.
We are trying to encourage the saving of the old race boats.
There's a lot of interesting stuff on the net about Aronow and the people he associated with during his career in off-shore power boat racing and boat building. But the one thing that I'm keen to get a hold of (Thunderman - the movie) has proven impossible to obtain.
I have tracked down several movie trailers on youtube, several articles and links about it, there was even a web site dedicated to the film www.donaronowflm.com which has now been removed, but haven't been able to score a full copy of the movie anywhere.
If anyone has got any ideas or contacts that may help, a pm with details would be very much appreciated.
Regards,
Spiro
Spiro......I was in that movie and have a copy on DVD. The producers interviewed many of Don's friends and asked if we would go on camera and tell our stories of life with Don.
I agreed....Bob did not, because he didn't like the slant they were trying to go with from the beginning....I went because I thought someone has to tell the truth about the good things he did.
Anyway......I am thinking of donating my copy to HORBA and let them give it away with a purchase of a book or t-shirt or something. The lawyers tell us that we can't sell it, but we can give it away....still waiting for a final decision on the legalities.
Also my youngest son is helping me put together a new book of photos called...Blue Water Warriors. It will have about 100 rare photos of the 60's the 70's and the 80's.
Nice to hear from you Charlie. I've been getting reports from Mark on the state of the nation in the US and it's not good news. I sincerely hope both you and Bobi make it through this even though it may mean you need to go into 'survival mode' for a while.
Let me know when you've made your decision regarding the DVD. If I can support HORBA through one or two small purchases I certainly will.
On that note I note the Searace book by John Crouse is still being advertised there. If still available I would like a copy and will discuss best way to do that with via my HORBA membership.
Thanks again for popping in, we understand how busy you are.

Mark at Coota.......Bob S, told me you contacted him the other day and wanted to reach me.....I tried to e-mail you but had no response.
If you tried calling my number in Rhode Island.....I have been in Florida most of the winter.
Boat business here in the States is down a lot. Even the super rich guys are not buying like they used to. The big boys can afford it, but they also have to get rid of last year's boat and there is no one qualified for any loans out there to buy the used stuff.
Mercury Racing just told the race community that they are pulling theri support trucks from being at every race this year. That tells you alot about the state of things here.
We sold some 24 footers, but the bigger stuff is on hold. If fuel goes up again, the 24's may be the boat of choice in the future or the 28's with singles.
Sorry I haven't been on the board so much, just very busy staying ahead of the curve here.
G day Chrlie,
