| I put heaps of crap on my built rods that serve no purpose other than too look good. They do look very nice on a rod... just no benefits to them is what I think |
Leather grips on a rod are a work of art in their own right.
A person who owns such a rod will look after that rod & not just it's grip.
You let crap get on your rods & prob throw them in the garage after use whereas a person with leather grips will tend to kept that rod in a fastidious manner that includes rollers a rolling reel is well cleaned etc etc |

I don't believe this was ever in question.

Your assertion is BS, although it might be true for those who use shelf rods. I can assure you, Bashir is not one of those anglers.
Jay - why aren't you asking your builder this stuff instead of us? That is what you are supposed to be paying them for. Since you already seem to know so much about game foregrips, perhaps then you could answer Bashirs question now _________________ Friends don't let other friends use factory wrapped rods.

Dont have to you're talking to him right now, nor am i going to justify owning rods with leather grips to anyone.
But if must know it all started off when i got myself one of Ian Millers sticks, feel of that rod was 2nd to none that i'd used not just the grip the way he cuts the blanks so i indulged myself & builtup sets of rods for 37, 24 & 15 kg & whoever picks up one of those rods will allways comment how good the leather grip feels opposed to their hypolon grips.
If you've never used a leather grip on a rod it's simple you do NOT the right to compare them
My Game sticks are imacculate & so are their roller etc, same cant be said back when i had gamesticks with hyperlon grips
And for the record no i'm not GAY
If a person likes the look of leather grips on a rod & wants to indulge himself in purchasing that's his choice |

Dunno how you assume I trash my gear because I don't put leather grips on my rods
When i said I put crap on my rods I was referring to when I build them.... I put metallic trims, colourful winding checks, etc... all bling or wank ie they serve no purpose other than to look good.
Like I said, the theory makes sense, I'm happy to be proven wrong on the topic. But I've never felt that my hypalon grips were causing me discomfort in a fight? If your hands are hurting that bad you should be harnessed up - its a more effective way to fight a fish anyway. I mean you don't see leather grips on Japanese GT rods (think I saw a precision with one though), Jig rods etc... and their fights can draw out for just as long as a marlin.
I would still like to know the reason for putting leather grips on a 130 chair rod... _________________ Cheers

Makes alot of sense wasn't me but rod builders who started the leather trend would've looked @ or were tenis platers/golfers & thought Hmmm
Those tenis players are a sweaty bunch they use leather grips on their rackets wonder why

Still have to get the rod out of the gunnel into the chair it wont do it on it's own & @ the drag pessure that rod is under, hell why would you want 2B squashing down on hypolon even though you're only talking under a minute
You dont order a Ferrari & ask for fabric seats you get the car with with standard leather.
If fisho's want leather on their grips they shouldn't be mocked for it
People have the right to choose |

Under a minute? More like a few seconds of pressure which is normally no different to a 24kg outfit at sunset. I don't think too many people run their 130s at 1/3 strike (45lbs) when trolling.... its just not needed. Sorry but I'll have to agree to disagree there if that is the only reason for them.
You make it sound like hypalon just moulds under your hand like a stress ball or play dough would. Its fairly solid stuff these days.
I don't see rods like a ferrari, they are tools used to catch a fish, but yeh people can put what they want on rods. I just like to catch the fish.
At the end of the day I can't see any good reason to put them on a rod for the extra cost and maintenance. I just don't think they offer any significant benefits over a hypalon grip. _________________ Cheers

Pointless argueing with you as you've never used or owned one if & when you do come back & argue all you like.
In the meantime dont begrudge people for having or wanting the finer things in life |

I wouldn't own one because my hypalon rods do a fantastic job - that is my point! Even if I fought a fish on one, I doubt I would be able to give you a review on them as I wouldn't touch the damn grip for much longer than a minute because I will be harnessed up with my left hand on the reel like any other good angler would.
You can't come up with a reasonable answer for why they should be put onto a 130 chair rod is what I can see. Maybe Stuart will, he sells them for thousands of dollars, so surely he will be able to justify their use, other than them being just one of the 'finer things in life'. Please..... _________________ Cheers

Bashir
Your right about leather grips not being used on chair rods but not to sure what the point is because chair rods are a completely different animal. However if your going to purchase a top of the range chair rod would you want a $5 foam grip stuffed on it….hardly? Why should we worry about how nice the paint job is on a new car or boat when a roller or paint brush would do the job just as well, just not as neat? Enough from me as this thread is going no where.
