I am replacing a Navman 5430 with a Standard Horizon CP300i which I have got in from the US and want to know if I can just plug the Navman wiring plug into the back of the SH unit.
The plug is the same and the wiring diagrams are the close to the same except:
The SH uses 2amp fuse instead of 1amp fuse (which I can presumably just swap over).
The wiring diagram on the SH shows the fuse on the positive wire whilst the Navman diagram shows it on the negative wire - does this matter?
Can anyone advise?
Thanks,
Phil. |

I'm thinking your Ok with the plug and play cables....I'm sure the likes of antennas and power up are all the same.
Regarding the fuse.....It realy pisses me off when Manufactures go against the priciples of DC current.....Yes the Poms did it with early Minis but with DC the fuse should be on the weakest link...."The positive".... Fusing the earth leads to the requirement that your 'Neg' bus bar is fused on all attatchments so as the 'earth fault' is not 'capillaried' to every other gizmo you have installed.
(POS+ carries and sends 'current'....NEG- returns it)
Fuse the 'Pos' and it's a 'lone beast'..indipendent of other accessories.
The 'NEG-' is 'common' to all...the 'POS+' is the idependent driver for your unit.

As a mechanic that 'did his time' on pom cars I agree 100% re the fuse issue steve (remember the old + earth Jags, Daimlers etc - yeeech. No wonder 'Lucas' was always referred to as 'The Price of Darkness').
Bloody annoying to say the least. Also, a short between the unit & fuse (when the -ve/earth is fused) can result in 'burn outs' even though there's a fuse fitted - bloody ridiculous. Should always be fused on the power feed to the unit IMO.
