I have an 18 ft fiberglass with a moderate deadrise of 17 degrees. It is a solid fishing boat with excellent stability but I am looking to upgrade.
My next trailer boat must be quick through the 1 & 2 meter waves of Port Phillip Bay. I am sick of slowing down to get to the spot due to heaving pounding on the big waves. But my next boat also must be stable at rest.
Please give me your opinions on the boat to suit me.
I know a bloke with an Edencraft 233 and he only uses the boat for shelf runs, never in the bay due to the lack of stability.
So this boat would not be suitable.
I hate my mates Savage Mako with 20 degree deadrise, because it is only a tiny but faster through the big waves, but rocks constantly even on flat fishing days.
I have been told to get a cat, but you rarely see them off Altona so I wounder how they would cope when the bay turns to a washing machine?

hi snapper hunter , your mate with the 233 should have it taken from him and given to me.
an oil rig will provide the best stability , but is slow through the waves.
Your budget seems to extend from 20k to 150k so you have a lot of choices.
top gear does my head in too , i want a lambo murcieadribblo , but they dont make them in a ute , maybey i should put a 6 litre afm in my rodeo but i heard the wheel studs wont handle it.
now stop listening to your mates and go test driving , no one here can tell you what suits you , apart from fashion sense and where the best price and quality of veges are.
in my opinion a cat wins in the brief you have given , but that may not suit you ,go to the ramps with a good smile and attitude and beg owners to take you for a ride , or alternativley helicopter fishing may be what you are after
no matter what - you have to test them

You may want to consider pier or land based fishing.
The Formula 233 hull was developed in the 60's yet it is the belief of many, including me, that it remains the ultimate trailer boat. It has been copied, flopped, slightly modified and reintroduced in one form or another by so many manufacturers both here and in the USA for good reason.
I have found them no more tender at rest than many other popular monos.
If I lived closer to real game fishing grounds and wanted a rig that size I'd own one in some form or another.
Good luck.
There will be plenty on here soon directing you to a Haines Hunter.
Good luck mate.....sounds like your after the ride of a formula with the stability of the Evo.......if you find something like that than let me know too..
Why don't you look at getting a boat custom built. That way you get what you want. It's pretty amazing what can be done these days with modern technology.
What sort of tow vehicle do you have? Even though I own a HH, if I were to have the ultimate fishing platform, that travels through the chop like you want it to, then a cat would be my only choice.
But, like I said, whats towing it 1st
Butt ugly I know, although much easier on the eyes than carpys oil rig , but nothing rides better or is more stable at rest
This will or should bring out some interesting and may be some heated responses.
As Carpy quotes the 233 should be 'voluntarily' forfeited to someone else.
As for the Mako is it a 'tinnie',a 5.5 CC sports or an old 6.8.
Mako is very 'generic' even a Savage in it's description so even that said will open this thread up for comment.
I looked hard at an Edencraft with twin Opties and wheelhouse cab a while ago at a local dealer my side and am still kicking myself....Was very rough in upkeep but cosmetic just the same....Couldn't go with the extra $$$ to clean it up.
Now it sits at my favourite Shallow Inlet 'teasing me' Horses for courses so Good luck on your queries.
"I forgot to add"
This particular Edencraft has a 'fill up hull' as is the norm with a Barcrusher that as we are led to believe floods at rest giving the "ultimate stable platform at rest".
As this was really the only Edencraft I've ever got 'up close and personal' with I'm not sure if this is the 'norm'
But I will say that even in Firecats dark times of disrepair it was as flat as a shit carters hat at rest....I just like cats .
