ok, i am trying not to make this a stupid question... i am trying to look up approximate gape sizes of specific sized hooks in millimetres, say a size 1 might be 10-11 mm across the mouth gap (probably not a good estimate, but this just makes my point). i realize this varies between manufacturers, but you know, as a rule of thumb there must be something close to a standard. the reason i want this is for ordering hooks online without actually seeing the hook in my hand, to make sure i will get the approximate size i am after. i have done a little bit of a google search but came up fruitless. it would be nice to have this information easy to reference.
cheers
Daimin

Mustad has a website where you can print out the hook charts to actual sizes for comparison.

mustad.no/classic/index.php

Try that

I've got a couple of those Mustad charts and it shows that not all sizes are equal. An 8/0 O'Shaughnessy is about 23mm across the gape as opposed to an 8/0 Suicide at 20mm across the gape, A #4 Beak hook is 10mm across as opposed to a #4 Kirby Kendall at 7mm across. Further to this, and I know from experience, some of the hooks that are on ebay can be sized physically a fair whack different to a Mustad hook of the "same" size. It's a bit of a minefield isn't it laughing-fish.gif ? .

All the best for Chrissy,
Anthony.
