Had a little session on a local stream this arvo before chopping some wood .
The Forestry thought it a nice day to burn off some coops close by which was unexpected on a sunday .
The hopper was the order of the day bringing a dozen fish or so to the surface and then to the hand
Awesome colours in the junior ranks :!:

The new angler access is now in for the Westerway area
Had a few hours to kill so i thought a stroll over the new turnstyles may be in order .
Started with a hopper and was refused upteenth times so i changed up to a Klink Hamer ,not even an inspection .....
Dads Favourite was next ,nothing again !
Back to a smaller hopper and a nymph ,,, and on !
3 fish from the hopper and 9 from the #16 grey nymph .
The better fish were on the hopper with many aerial moments ...
This fish moved along way to inspect and then slurp down the hopper ...
They are still feeding on the nymph with all this stable weather we are having and the river running at only 100mgl/d ...
I hope a few visitors enjoy the new access along the Westerway area

Had a traditional session for the b'day cellebrations today .
Started with a home made lure and caught a few fish .Proceeded to have a beer and then forget to open the bail arm ...
Smashed up my favourite 3cm rainbow on the side of the tinnie
Thinking the fish were a little shy on the lure and seeing the occasional rise i opted for the fly rod .
No takers on a number of dries so the usual twin nymph rig was adapted to being in the boat .
The third cast was toward a rising fish ,thinking this fish was only small i wasn't to fussed on landing on top of the disturbance .
One strip to straighten the line ,big swirl and i was on ,stella battle and the fish must of weighed in at around 4lb+ .One hell of a set of choppers on him too !
Plenty of fish fell to the nymph with a couple in the 3lb range .
The lake dropped at least 3' sending the fish on the go slow .
Plan B was rolled out which involved dropping off the boat ,having dinner (tuna) and the obvious changing of locations .
This time i opted for a muddler (fished dry) and angled from shore after dark .
Half an hour passed with only one hit before hooking up to a monster fish .
I lasted only 10seconds before being peeled and busted off :!:
I was still pleased as being attached to a fish like that for ten seconds is a great feeling .
None the less i persisted catching a hand full of nice fish before the moon rose to high and to full for any good fishing .
All in all it wasn't a bad day/night on the water ,

A couple more dozen fish this arvo blew away the cob webs from the hang over
First one from the Hopper ...
Most fish already have the bright orange belly .
Nearly all the smaller fish in this section had a sparkling purple shimmy in their gill plates ! Anyone else seen purple on a Bow before ??? Perhaps a result of diet ??? There was 4 new insect species discovered by the CSIRO in this area around 12-18 months ago ...
Another ...
A rare fish displaying next to no spots or even par marks ...

Oops ,that was 2 x a bakers dozen Pale
Plenty of suicidal fish in that stream which makes it kinda easy
No hoppers out there either (rainforest) they just respond well to a big pattern they can see from under the fast water

It has been tough fishing in the past few weeks with the low water only flowing at around 70+mgl/d .
Still there has been some good fishing on the dry and lightly weighted nymphs for those willing to slow down and tread quietly .
The #16-18 possum f-flies were the stand out in immitating the tiny caddis of late ,the fish really slurp them down when most other offerings are being rejected .
An F-fly capture on the "T" ...
Strike !
Fish on ...
Time for some more air !
A little hang time for style points ...
A score of 7 for the landing ...
Theres fighting fish in them there waters !
There has been a few good battles in the low water with me being done in a couple of times in the shallow and exposed logs .
This fella almost won his freedom early with his antics ...
I have just purchased myself a new camera and the pics are looking like it was worth the coin .
I dragged it out for a quick run above town and headed for the twig water with the 6' Colton/Orvis combo .
The learning curve in switching to a manual style camera is daunting but it seems to be going ok for a first practice run .The auto settings are easy to use which is also a bonus .
The first fishy pic ...
A cropped shot taken from the pic above, its amazing on how far you can zoom in even though i should have been more in focus on the subject :whatever
The first rod pic ...
The first sunset shot taken from the backyard ...
I'm preying that the showers today have given the river some kind of rise in levels ,it sure needs it !

they dont know how too fish , but you'll work that out quick .and you'll be disappointed with the photo quality too
went fly fishing at lake canobolis (small dam )when i put the boat in i discovered i only had two fly rods , ten weight with a high speed hi density fly line and a eight weight intermediate , so i trolled around , and cast
the high speed ten would go four metres at 2km/p/h and caught all the redfin
as both had two flies on two tippets.the white marabou with red wool gold ribbed caught all the red fin, many would bury in the grass and get off
the intermediate would go one metre at the same speed _________________ some days my post get deleted |
