I recently was given an old Erskine deluxe by a complete stranger who was about to toss it in the bin, it does need a bit of work!! Big thankyou to the person who has recently given away this rod, if you are reading this.
Anyway still deciding whether I go old school and wrap with some red/white ceramic guides original colour wraps or go the full revamp with SVSG's.
What do you guys think, and if anyone has a picture of an old erskine guide wrap that would be great.

| Really going back a bit there, the earliest version predated the fuji color guides and as I recall had twisted chrome wire guides, a yellowish blank, red wraps, wood butt and cork or maybe molded plastic fore grip. A nice little trout rod in seventies The wood butt, red or green wraps onthe natural yellow blank was very common on early JW rods. |

Thanks charlie
The blank is black, cork grips, and looked like green bindings with some yellow but the original guides had been replaced with the orange and whites ans wrapped quite poorly with what I am not sure but wasn't nylon.
Anyway its stripped back, flexiprimer added, and will go with some black gloss tomorrow.
I am leaning towards some SVSG guides, 20, 12, 8 8 8 8, and i think I want to go with the Gudebrod Yellow bindings. Tempted to go the original green but I like to fish into the evenings so yellow definitely stands out better. I think some under binding green and trims maybe.
Will post some pics when done. |

| Personally, I would stick to the white and red ceramic guides to maintain that 'antique' feel. Afterall, you wouldn't refurbish an fj holden with the latest gear from autobarn. |

Cheers Lymphocyte,
I was thinking the old ceramics and I do have the guides here, but I sort of wanted to have a play and create something different, but i know what you are talking about.
Also I wanted to see how good SiC guides perform compared to other guides.
Will post pics when I finally get around to binding it up.

Yeah i think the Ferrule could be changed at some point, it seems to be in good order, except someone must have tried to paint it black and the distressed finish was just me only half sanding it. Its a pretty easy job in any case and doesnt usually disturb the thread.
Didn't really think of grinding the feet with these guides only the 25mm gave me a few issues, most of the small ones were very flat as they were.
Now i just need some bream to test it out with... going to go with the Black Queen Deluxe V's the Eskine Deluxe but I think the extra foot and a half will win it but would like to see if the erskine is a bit stiffer.
Anyway all done for now, good thing to do when on holidays.
