Just about all boating tragedy's can be prevented with a little bit of common sense.

I got quite angry last sat when pulling into ramp @ days end.

Watched this wee little tinny 10ft'r shallow sides drift from 1 pontoon to the adjoining cause the guy could pull start it.

Wind prob 15 knots but not to be felt due to breakwall.

Trailer'd my boat parked up top to strap down looked back to see guy had finally started his outboard watched a little kid jump in no life jacket from what i could make out.

Guy toofs off in the boat angry-fish.gif angry-fish.gif

This one really bugs me as I was out yesterday in the exact area where they were and if I had've noticed them in strife I would have offered assistance. Difficult to tell boat size but they weren't wearing PFD1's at the time. From what I have heard/read they were taking on water, beached and assessed what was the go, then tried to make it back to the ramp. If I had any doubt getting back to the ramp I would have asked for an escort from someone but knowing those waters I could swim up to 2km back to shore. They couldn't swim from what the media reported. Really really sad and proves that the water can be enjoyed most of the time but also can take it all away.

Crap time of year unhappy-fish.gif

My theory is:

People get holidays, they go away determined to fish at the place they have been dreaming of and then the weather plays up.

Determined to fish, they convince themselves that the weather isnt that bad, they take the risk. unhappy-fish.gif

Everyone else suffers the consequences, especially their loved ones.

Apparently the guy who couldn't swim didn't have a lifejacket on...

I don't get it,the boat didn't sink...surely he could of held onto it,they had been taking water earlier......doesn't make sense

You've got no idea the things i see but what can you do if you try telling some peeps you get abused & told to mind your own buisness'

I just cant believe the stupidity of people

Some time back i organised a supply of rock boots which are used to conduct safety class's for land based people educate them the do's & donts in rock fishing safety.

Some time later i asked one of the tudor's how it was all going

He shock his head said no sonner had class ended the idiots were out walking on slippery rocks bare footed

I was about to say if the boat suddenly started to sink and they paniced, common sense of putting of life jackets could be forgotten.

But given it was serious enough and they still had the state of mind to go to the beach and check things out surely they should have had the time and composure to put on life jackets.

Either way a tragic loss which could have been avoided and hopefully others can learn that life jackets save lives before its too late.

Speaking of idiots I still can never forget seeing a tiller steer tinny 35km offshore.

Unfortunately it's amazing how many if these old guys can't swim....but never wear a life jacket. Hard to believe how they get the courage to get in a boat, let alone the risk if not wearing pfd
