Last night i checked out my transducer and it was a little higher than the instuctions show it should be. I moved it so the bottom of the hull is in line with the top of the transducer as it sits horizontially. I moved it down about an incha nd a half - hopefully this makes a difference?

Which transducer should I be selecting from the menu? I cant remember now off the top of my head what is says exactly on the little silver tag but i know its 83/200 ducer and I'm sure I have the Generic 83/200 ducer seleted in the menu....

Can't help you with the settings, as I'm in Melbourne currently ... tooooo far away from mine to verify.
In regard to the position, mine was at the bottom of the hull too. But still misplaced as soon as I was moving a little faster.
Moved it more to the outside and away from the center of the boat.
Probably only a test on the water will show. Remember to take someone else along so you can check the positioning whilst driving faster.

Cheers

I was planning to check the transducer position next trip out with my mate driving and me hanging over the back but my boat has a big transom step on each side which will block my view of the transducer when I'm in the boat, so I think it could be a little trial and error.

Yeah ... mine was easier there.
But I only found out by chance because it hadn't really bothered me as I mostly only use the GPS function.
One day after my engine had been overheating and after repairs, I wanted to feel how hot the water was coming out the telltale.
I was sort of hanging of the back and saw that the transducer wasn't really covered with water whilst traveling.
Changed position and good to go.

The transducer isnt in line with a planing strake on the bottom of the hull, is it?
If it is this will cause turbulance the faster you go, and you"ll need to reposition the transducer so nothing is in front of it on the hull.
For what its worth I have my transducer tilted forward slightly(front lower than rear), this enables the pulses to read directly down and forward when underway, as most boats float bow higher than stern even when at rest, and mine works rather accurately at all speeds, deep or shallow.

I'm a little confused, do you guys have the transducer pointing down so the part that is pointing out away from the back of the boat is angled down? or is it the other way around so the part that is closer to the transom is pointing down?

And would about a 45 degree angle be ok?

45 degree is probably way too much.

Easy explanation ...
When the boat sits on the trailer, it is lying more or less horizontal.
Launched into water, the weight of the motor and different other things pull the rear down. It angles up towards the front.
Driving forward, the front angles up even more. This angle somewhere in between steady in water and moving in water is the angle you should have your transducer at.
Obviously facing the other way. the transducer needs to be angled up at the rear so when the boat is underway .... the transducer is horizontal in the water and not "looking forward".
--> Boat and transducer together form a "V".

Hope I haven't confused you any more .... cool-fish.gif

Cheers

For best results I have always found the tranducer needs to have the trailing edge angled slightly down ie the rear lower than the front.

45 deg is way too much more like a 5-10 deg angle.

Most transom mounts have adjustable brackets so you can change the height and angle slightly.

Start with the transducer face level with the hull at the leading edge and have the trailing edge slightly lower than the hull.

Ok will do that thanks.

Also KFCScotty says not to select the 'Generic 83/200' transducer from the menu (which I did have selected). Which one should I be using? Mine is the Lowrance 83/200 transducer I bought from CH Smith with the Sounder.

Transducer cable at connection to unit end will have a model number attached on a small silver 'tag', select that one from the menu. wink-fish.gif
