This afternoon I went out to a local fishing hole as I often do after work, and found 7 yellowbelly laying dead roasting in the sun on the river bank, the largest of them all would have barely been legal..

I have pulled people up in the past for killing yellows that are clearly undersized and the most common excuse is, "sorry mate, I thought it was a carp" I don't believe that is any kind of excuse at all.. Can people really not tell the difference? or are they just that cruel that they would leave a fish to sit in the 35 degree heat to die a slow and probably very painful death.. Even carp deserve a quick and humane death..

Unfortunately there are quite a few morons out there I've seen this happen with Golden Perch, Tandanus Catfish and Bass! Quite how anyone is stupid enough to misidentify those I don't know, but in one case (the catfishes) it was "I thought they were a pest" this is one of the reasons I'd like to see some sort of application/exam as part of acquiring a recreational fishing license. Its all down to a lack of education and a lack of respect for life.

100% agree with CC.

Fishing licence should be harder to get, with a fish ID section and questions on bag limits and closed seasons.

I agree aswell, but I doubt half of these people have a fishing licence at all.. Maybe a test and a fishing licence should be required before they are allowed to buy a fishing rod!

Excuse number 3 .... "ah mate theres too many small ba*tards in ere, they take the bait before the larger fish" angry-fish.gif

Yes CC's idea is good but only good for those that fish, abide by the laws.Unless theres a Fisheries Officer on every water all the time you will still have the careless actions of Morans, fill the bucket etc etc, occuring. unhappy-fish.gif

Exactly right Coach. Given the title of this thread, maybe psychiatric testing should also be part of the fishing license regime.

your right there
given the masive fish kill caused by bad water management which caused the black water event,a few under size fish in a healthy river left on the bank is not a big sin
but it's another form of road rage ,better to vent there rage here then shooting some ferals
i carry a camera all the time, but every time, some thing worth while comes along the batteries are flat , or cant see the screen and record the event on standby, well some thing have too be recorded or no one will beleive you
