Does anyone know what breed of trailer that is and if its alloy? Much better looking than the I beam or C section ones getting around

As Daniel said, Easy Tow Galvanised Trailer. This one is custom and has been built to Alan's specs.

Hey Spiro,
I love these boats, however will never be able to afford one. I have always been a specs man and wondered whether you knew any of them, such as thickness of sides, bottom, transom and what is the hull only weight.

regards
Kirko

my 233 hull is 25mm thick on the bottom sides are 15mm and so is the deck,i didnt measure the transom but you need to use the extra long engine bolts as the standard ones arnt long enough.they are pretty much a double layup hull compared to the mass produced boats. wink-fish.gif

Guys, out of respect to the boat builders, be it Edencraft, Cootacraft, Haines Hunter, FPBA or anyone else, I generally don't ask questions about their laminate schedules. Some volunteer information and that's their choice, but I never push for it.

Going back to the factory tour, at the time there was a QLD manufactured 233 in the factory. The differences in finish and strength compared to an Alan built boat were pretty obvious. Of course with finish its a visual thing. To get a feel for the difference in strength, I simply applied pressure to and punched the hull sides ie comparing the QLD manufactured boat against one of Alans. No different to what most of us would do at a boat show for example.

We then moved to the bench and proceeded to pound a piece of laminate with a small sledge hammer as previously mentioned. That told me a whole lot more.

ggoss i suggest you come bang my boat on the side and look at the finish,or even better ask allan about my boat it was built in qld 4 years ago together with opti .The bottom of mine is 3omm sides 15mm and eats the ocean ,and as for attention to detail the finish is unbeleivable for a boat that come out of a mould that was built in the early seventies, and not to mention transom mount was designed in qld .cheers

These hull thicknesses being mentioned seem quite radical. Bob and Opti can you confirm where on the boats these thickness measurements were taken?

Near the keel there will be glass overlap so an increase in thickness could be expected that won't be uniform across the entire area. Likewise near the chine and in the anchor locker a similar situation could be expected.

If these boats were the stated thicknesses all over then hull/deck only would have to be at least 2500kg which is ridiculous!!

Opti, has your hull been weighed?

And if the above is correct then didn't ggoss mention that the current EC's are being built from a 6mm laminate but are stated as being stronger than previous boats at 25mm and 15mm.

i have a new 6 metre built in geelong by alan ball the bare hull weighs 1250kg i have no idea how thick the boat is or what sort of resin they used and i dont realy care .......... ive been in cootacraft. haines.and bass strait boats but i thought the cootacraft porposed badly and the bass strait is just a copy of an old edencraft but a lot lighter and the warranty is no were as long as edencraft and the haines hunters are realy just gig boats i didnt even consider formula 21 cooz there is no storage room upfront..... before i ordered my new boat i went to the edencraft factory with one of my good freinds who owned a very succesfull boat building bussiness for about ten years and him and alan ball talked about all that technical sort of stuff hull thickness laminates resin and other stuff that was over my head he checked out a couple of boats under construction and gave me the thumbs up he was very happy with all the technical stuff so i ordered my new boat. the new boat was finished over a month early the finish is outstanding alan and his staff are very easy to deal with i found the whole experience very good. unlike most of the other shonks ive had dealings with in the marine industry....... ive had the boat on the water for a couple of months now and im very impressed with it its not my first boat ive had a lot of boats over the last twenty years and im happy to say this one might be the last boat i will need...... got an alloy trailer from ph marine and a 250optimax
