I am not sure why you are hating on the Japanese squid jigs so much. The Japanese egi lures are actually pretty nice in terms of action and quality, although they are pricey. Of course, the old methods still work, but it doesn't hurt to try out a new technique for fishing after all, fishing is a lifestyle.
We are all exposed to fishing media, although I get the shits with marketing sometimes, I have learned to embrace it as every now and then you do learn something. Having fished the Eastern Suburbs rocks off Sydney for 28 yrs since my mid teens, we used to throw yo Zuri squid jigs off our 4 wrap bream rods with a steady retrieve back in the late 80's and catch quite a few big squid after a bream session. BUT... It's now 2012 and fishing pressure is so much more in my local spots. It is harder to catch them. 3 years ago I got the urge to fish for squid with specialised gear. I bought the jap jigs and fished it off my bream SP gear and got a few. I really got keen so I watched a few japanese "egi" fishermen on you tube and the lures, rods, reels and techniques, got myself a specialised rod and used the erratic triple ficking technique they used. I brought 2 ofmy mates down the first time and they laughed at me until I got the first 6 squid to their zero, and then they started using the same technique and we ended up with 19 all up, and the results have definitely been better. So the moral is, give it a go or embrace it as something new. I am sure most of us were saying the same thing aout Sp's 15 years ago and now look. _________________

Not sponsored - but fish with tackle I choose to use.
Spend and use whatever you like, nothing hard about squidding in my books, if you fish a lot for jews and kings it is a necessity to be good at it. The only thing to remember is that you don't "have" to use the latest and greatest from Japan tom get a good feed of squid for bait or a feed.
Well, since then I bought a cheap Gladiator egi rod and use the egi retrieve style which is required to make the jigs work the way they are designed to be worked. And guess what? _________________ For my fishing adventures click here: Landbased fishing rocks !!
