I think you may be right. In guessing the Au version will have a different external look so that its in line with its cousins.

Hope its soon.

A set of carbon washers should only set you back about 10 to $15 bux from the states.
Most people run standard drags on them cause they arn't to bad.

I had a salina 5000 II and was nice reel but fairly heavy. I was thinking about getting another but ended up buying a shimano Rareium 5000 instead. for about 280 bucks , carbon body , 11kg drag and light as.
5000 same size body as 4000 but deeper spool and more drag.
I have a couple ci4 stradics and been great and was going in to buy a 4000 stradic when showed the rareium and told more stella features been fitted to rareium than stradic and only $20 more than stradic
22kg drag on salina is questionable and a 5000 will be on 6-10kg rod max anyway normally so 6-8kg drag most u will use. Who seriously can hold on to rod at 20kg for a while?

standard salina drags are smooth as but as i found out, not up to hard running fish. i nearly got spooled on a 48kg bluefin last year in less than a minute under plenty off drag. caught a bout a dozen fish over a couple of days but found i couldn't get as much drag as usual, so when i got home i pulled the washers out (oil felted) to see them glazed and burnt. i had noticed that the downriggershop.com sold sheets of carbotex so ordered myself a sheet and cut new washers for it, treated them to some cal's drag grease and well... all my reels now get this treatment. just as smooth and i hope more reliable. have checked them just last week after plenty of small tuna up to 20kg and kings from summer and they still look new.
for the little extra in cost i don't know why all reels don't have carbotex drags. to do my salina II 16000 would of been about $5-8

I have two Salianas and two Salina II 16000's, all have performed faultlessly, and have caught stacks of kings as well as albacore and SBT last season. One of the Salina IIs got a bit rough at the end of my last Eden trip, I sent it in, as well as my Salina 80, via my tackle shop, both came back at no cost. I love these reels as well as the Shimanos, we have a good choice of tackle these days, most is an overkill for what people use it for.

The RAW II is the new flagship spinning reel overseas, whereas here they are sticking with the VS as the flagship for now, although the Salina II seems more popular.

Overseas (in the States) they also have the Cedros, which is identical to the Salina II, the body has a different color, but same in all regards and all parts interchangeable. They also have the Cedros Jigging Rods, these are the same as the Salina rods we have here.

The Salina 2/Cedros arealso available in high speed (oval knobs instead of round) and also baitrunner versions.

Some awesome deals to be had on all of these reels online at the moment, around half of the price some are asking for them here. The original Salina reels, basicalyl the same as Salina 2/Cedros except color scheme are going really cheap.
