I had my every two week chat with Rheumatologist on Saturday Arvo. He’s the 6th one in past 18 years. He’s the best I have seen to date. Over the past four years we have tried many different medications to see if we could tame the beast.
As far as R/A is concerned I’ve truly tried everything that is available in Aussie land. The past 12 months the beast has been pretty angry. The Doc gave me his moby number so if I was hospitalised to text him and he would come and sort out with docs at hospital.
Sitting in his consulting room he turns and says’ Mate, I’ve tried everything available, there’s nothing else I can suggest, maybe you need to look elsewhere’………..I’m lost. Not in good head space. _________________ Life is like a fish milkshake
The missus and her mum just load up on panadeine forte everyday. Doesnt seem to do much and I know that the ramifications of this will be huge for my missus in years to come. That shit rots your insides, plus its very addictive
They stop taking it and the pain comes back. My question though, is it the pain from R/A or withdrawal symptoms?
9 years of working in a detox makes me hates all drugs
In regards to 75000 members, well most wont even remember they were members, been and gone. BUT if you want to entice advertisers, its important to keep that figure (thats my theory) Most wont post in this thread because illness are very personal, most are blokes, blokes dont generally talk about this stuff and to be honest blokes dont really go to the quack so there would be heaps of members with issues that they dont even know they have.
In 1970 while working on a stove assembly line ( making stoves ) I pulled a mussle in my back and tried to claim compo, as I couldn't do my job properly, with the lifting.
I went to the doctor to claim compo from my job and he told me I had Fibrocitis and it wasn't work related.
I later found out he was a stooge doctor for Email the place I was working for.
I lost my trust in doctors and never seen another one till I had my heart attack in March 2007.
I refused to take any sort of pill, or drug, ( cept for tobacco and alcohol ) nomatter how crook I got.
I believed my natural body anti bodies kept me from most health issues.
In my later years I worked for a vehicle dismantle company and was employed by them from 1986 till a few years ago.
In all that time I had 13 sickies in total, where I was too sick to go to work.
( just for an example about my health ).
Since having the heart attack and starting to take prescribed drugs I have been in and out of hospitals, I have had one of the worst cases of shingles that the quacks have ever seen, (took photos to put in the medical
journal ) have had another heart atteck, come down with the flue, and, and other ailements, now have postrate cancer and got to have bone scanns and god knows what.
Sometimes I think I was better off when I didn't have doctors as a regular companion, but on the other hand I more than likely wouldn't be here now if it wasn't for doctors and drugs.
With my latest ailement the doctors ( 4 different ones handling me ) all tell me the best thing I can do is TALK ABOUT IT to other guys that have been through a similar situation.
This post is one means of TALKING about it with others, and I thank " ironmaiden " for starting it on here.

Forgive me for saying this mate, but one panadeine forte tablet contains 30mg of codeine, for you and me a couple of those and we'd be floating up near the ceiling. It takes only a few days to develop a dependncy on codeine.
The other component in there is paracetamol, one of the most abused of all drugs and very toxic to the liver. It's THE most common cause of liver problems.

Gazza tell us how you cope with foot rot
I hear it's a common ailment with ferrets
We used to mix a bit of sulphur with some kero to make a paste. put it in a tray near the entrance to their sleeping box.Rarely got to use it as we looked after them but bought one poor creature from someone (who needed a punch) and it hardly had any hair + the feet were revolting, the paste healed all.Works wonders, well in the 'old' days there were the sulphur based infection fighters..going back to them in some cases because of resistance.
I wouldn't use the paste for cork rot though...not that I've ever had it!!

Howdy mate. Right now as you could guess, I'm having a flaire up. I'll try and explain what your missus/mother in law & myself are going through..
I was playing AFL or VFL back then football when the disease started. I've had many football injuries so this is how I relate to them.....
Swollen toes-ankles. The pain is very similar to gout.
Swollen knees the pain is equivalent to torn - ruptured ligaments.
Swollen hip joints. Pain equivalent to a bone marrow aspirant.
Swollen Spine- back Pain similar to bulged- ruptured disc
Swollen shoulder pain equivalent to dislocated shoulder, broken collar bone
Swollen fingers pain equivalent to broken finger, dislocated finger
Swollen wrist pain equivalent to broken wrist
Swollen elbow pain equivalent dislocated – broken elbow
Swollen jaw pain equivalent wisdom tooth infected, broken jaw
Prescribed drugs like prednisolone, methotrexate, Luefledamoide, Enbrel, Acatamera are all MEANT to ease the symptoms........they may work or not work or may work for a month or a year or a day. As Jayygee say's we ARE NOT A COLLECTIVE
Flare up could be 1 day to 360 days? Depending on day could have 4-5 joints affected or 10-15 joints affected
Rheumatologist have only a few drugs that they can prescribe for PAIN.
1 Panadeine forte 2 Morphine, morphine derivative eg endone, Jurista
All R/A patents have monthly or two monthly blood test’s. They check R/A level, c reactive protein, liver function, full blood check.
18 years I’ve shared my life with the beast. Early days addicted to morphine due to that’s what Docs prescribed. Then addicted to painadiene forte.
At the start you would take 2 tablets in morning.6am then 2 at 11am, 2 at 4pm, 2 at 8pm, 2 at 11pm
Then 6mths later it’s 3tablets at same time, 2 years later and it’s 4 tablets at same time so for me today would take 20 tablets per day.
After a couple of years stuff the pain killers I might as well drink. 1 bottle, 2 bottle 3 bottle - 7 bottles of bourbon per week now I’m an Alcoholic.
Kelvin panadeine forte gives a euphoric feeling. A feeling of warmth, smiley, calmness a bit like marijuana but not as high. It knocks the edge off. Yes it’s addictive. But if it’s not that it’s morphine.
Sorry I've gone on, I keep braking down in tears.... right now I can't escape the pain......
bloke & tackle this will answer your question as well..
