|
|
Hi all,
In need of some opinions
I have a 09 st-x navara, 2.5l T.D, manual
Wanting to upgrade the tyre & rim setup to something flash & low profile...
My worry is that the lower profile rubber will tend to slip at some of the ramps... has anyone had expirence with anything similar????
situation: Currently towing a savage 5.2 glass boat.. but will be looking to upgrade to a larger vessle in coming future.. & ramps such as werribee sth gets nice and slimy/weed and mornington perninsula way theres plenty of sand up the ramps down there...
thanks all. |

| The profile of the tyre makes bugger all difference to traction on the ramp, the tyre only contacts the ramp/road right at the bottom (of course) how much rubber is above it makes little difference, however, most performace tyres will have a fairly smooth tread pattern which may influence traction, is the car a 4X4? |

| 4X4, put whatever you like on it then! unless you plan some 4X4 trips, almost any tyre on a four wheel drive will pull a boat out of the ramp. |

big rims with low profile tyres and leaf suspension are not a good mix if you value a decent ride

I doubt that a chunky mud tread would make any real difference over a low-profile road oriented tread. Knobbly muddies won't grip slippery concrete, or sandy firm base ramps any better, unless they're going to chew right through it. Which might piss off the next guy. If you were going to reduce your tyre pressures (who would except on a beach launch) that would make a bigger difference than tread pattern. That said, low profiles aren't designed to run under-pressure. The side walls don't like it, so if you ever intended to use 4x4 for some sand driving, the low profiles wouldn't be good for that, even though a road tread is better for sand driving as it floats rather than digs.
Go for the bling. |

why would you bother with flash low profile rim & tyres, come back to carpark and find your car on bricks one day? |
