Blokes drowns after falling off rocks, two young blokes risk their live to save him by going into the water (Brave Guys Well Done!!!) BUT .... from the news reel >>>>>> It's understood the dead man had not been wearing a lifejacket For those that don't know ???? there are life jackets now that you hardly know are even on and will self inflate, then turn you the right way up in the water so you can breath. "oh' and whole range of other safetry goodies attached....
I know! some people will neverever "Get It"
So what can we do via fishnet to help get a better message out? Maybe a decal fot our rea windscreens. I note we don't have a 'Safety Section that could include tips and tricks or stories from people that came close to being fish food... _________________ "STOP KIDS FISHING"

Rodtip, there are adds on tele, there is no shortage of info in 36 different languages on the net, in tackle shops etc....There is only so much we can do as common sense was outlawed by the cotton wool committee.
As you are well aware, the ocean rocks weren't told they have to allow for the lowest common denominator, being, people who can't swim, who can't read a tide chart, who can't read for that matter, who can't watch the condition for 15 minutes and then have the balls to say 'nah, too rough....lets go for plan B', or a combination of all the above. Unfortunately, calling it another Darwin moment won't bring any relief to the deceased ones family n friends.
For years I fished the stones without an inflatable lifejacket, or up to date weather / sea conditions, or a PLB in my pocket, coz the stuff didn't exist. All we had were cleats, tide charts, yesterdays weather update, and common sense. Now I have reached that age where my back goes out more than I do. If I feel the urge to fish the stones, then I take all the above stuff with me. Does it cost a bit? yes, but not as much as a funeral.
Some people can't be told, and believe me, English isn't always a 2nd language.

Has to rate as the best response to anything I've ever posted. Unfortunately your right!
I guess the cotton wool committee can close the spot to fishing now…. _________________ "STOP KIDS FISHING"

I just enjoy the fact that the stupid people in the universe are still dying in ways that are nearly 100% preventable. I agree that there is so much info available that it's just a case of darwinism in action. In fact given the number of dumb people that do end up in the drink while fishing from the rocks, the darwin awards would even bother to use them in their next book.
Unless it involved a wetsuit, rubber chicken and 2 litres of burley. _________________ It's all good when your the big dude !!!
All make some good points on this subject, I grew up rock hopping as we called it, places like The murk, Yellow rock Bluefish Tumbledown, just to name a few. Luckily most of these places required you to be a mountain goat to get to the fishing spots, thus keeping the population of brain dead experts away.
Even so these rocks and many others like Dobroyd, Flat rock or Ben Buckler claimed many lives over the years, rock hopping allways has been risky and allways will be that will never change.
What causes the problem I believe are the three classic reasons ARROGRANCE dont tell me about boats type mentality. IGNORANCE a marvelous state of bliss caused by a complete lack of any knowledge. And the one you can never counter STUPIDITY, the type who looks at a spot sees waves crashing over but goes anyway usually in thongs or sandels, often unable to swim and often alone.
It is no good calling for more regulation YOU CAN'T REGULATE AGAINST STUPIDITY.
One way that could be looked at is if fisheries officers see people with the wrong gear or being idiots fine on the spot say $1,000.00 and ordered to leave area might work the pocket usually hurts these people more, better poorer than dead. _________________ Old fishermen never die, they just smell that way.
The sort of person who does this isnt likley to be the sort of person who spends time on fishing forums. Plenty of threads about this, still happens. Another solution needed.
