Planning to start fishing for trout at some of the Victorian Lakes.

Powerbaits have been mentioned as the best bait but I need some advice on the best colours?

It depends on where you are fishing, not every colour works the same everywhere.

I would suggest you buy two very different colours and fish one on each rod and see what they go for, then if one is smashing it, change over to that colour on both rods.

Different people will swear by different colours, but do the test I mentioned and see what works for you.

Can't beat it for rainbows in the cooler months.

Just get yourself pink,orange or chunky cheese,cant really go wrong. They'll take any of it pretty much,it's all to do with the pheramone in it

As for power bait, anyone noticed how small the jars are these days!!!!!!!

I have always used orange. Its because I used it one day (first time ever) and caught 7 trout in lake wendouree. That was years ago.

There is a rainbow coloured one that I see a lot of people using these days.

I was going to go out yesterday too tooliorook with some powerbait and see how I went.

Might go tonight, if so I will let you know.

Some times I go fishing just because I can and I dont care if I get a fish or not, I am just filling in a few hours, BUT if I seriously wanna catch trout, its mudeyes all the way!

I don't know what it's like down in Vic but mudeyes are pretty much impossible to buy in winter up here

You may struggle to catch a decent sized one as they go into spawning phase the smaller trout you will probably catch.Greater chance of getting a decent sized one using lures as they become aggressive towards them.

Never used this "powerbait" stuff. Do you rig it under a float, or just have it on the bottom.

i dont know if the fish digest it and cheese as well i dont fish it i used to use catchit and xl bait years ago and they banned catchit for some reason
i experimented with pudding baits years ago and the carp fisherman have some crazy arse rigs and bait
im against synthetic baits i enjoy the bait collection and teaching the young ones how to source it as my grangfather used to dig worms with me and put them in a plum jam tin then we rode our bikes down the ovens and caught some redies sounds better than opening a jar of technicolor crap
