I did get the drag re-done by Dazzar-K last year before going to Vanuatu which made a huge change in the smoothness.
Straight out of the box they need some love, get it done and you will be very happy.
Mind you i blew up a 6000 at Portland a couple of weeks back, first issue i've had out of 5 Gossa's in 3 years. |
And on your next service we might put in some bearings , your reel actually had some grinding inside which I managed to remove about half by grinding back a few things, we might be able to get it back to perfect with a few more shim's |

I've got that accudepth stuff (very soft) on a saltiga and last trip I had a tuna hit and it broke off a few meters down from the tip of the rod, seems that towing x-raps on the last couple of trips made it weak in spots were it rubbed in the sic guides as there were a few wear patches close together...worth keeping an eye on if your dragging lures that shake the rod about as I cant think of any other occasion that the line ever touched anything....now I have a 50lb top shot on that rod that can replaced often |

Yes it is soft, had the same issue in Vanuatu running blades, the action causes vibration rubbing on the guides and the line gives., not good.
Any application other than running divers and i've found it's fine. |

Good to see not everyone has had the same issues as we did!
we were fishing mainly for kings and also cubing for tuna. The draggs have always been sticky from the get go and are now grinding also.
maybe ill get someone to look at it, although you get what you pay for, the Saltigas are built for what we are using them for !

The carbontex washers will fix the sticky drag issue ,the grinding I have found is the main gear flexing and rubbing on the heads of the screws that connect the level wind to the main shaft, as it moves up under the main gear it makes contact, if you can shim the main gear up a bit to stop it making contact or the wear in the bearings might be letting it flex and make contact. New bearings are cheap so I would try that first, that's the 2 big bearings on each side of the gear case. |

| Bought an 18000 mid last year, it was an overkill for kings to 9kilo at Eden last month, and now wish I got a smaller model but ive got the salinas. When I got it I enquired about changing the Drag washers to the carbonex and was told that at that time they had changed them original from factory and no upgrade required wondering if that is correct hearing guys talking about upgrades. Nice smooth reel buy the way but have not tested it really yet, got it for Portland but haven't got there ts year. |

It's true mate.
All the newer sold Saragosas have the carbon ex washers.
You may need to take a washer out to make sure.
Pretty easy to do. |
