To all Suzuki DF140 owners ensure your oil coolers have been pulled apart and checked for corrosion, it is now a 200 hr interval service, but if you take 3 years to get 200 hrs up I would check every 18 months. It does not matter good you flush your motor you still get corrosion, this I learnt from 1st hand experience. If you are getting you motor serviced by a non Suzuki Dealer they will probably not know about this issue. happy-fish.gif

All models as far as I have seen, the lastest personally seen was a late 2009 model that was flushed 10 minutes after each use. The first u notice that u have a problem is when your oil warning light comes on as the engine oil is leaking out of oil cooler into the water and out of the exhaust. No damage generally occurs to engine, just a matter off cleaning and replacing o rings, if badly corroded a new oil cooler kit about $380 plus about 30 minutes labour and jobs done, the make sure you check every 200 hours or 12 months.

The oil cooler problem is quite well known, and indeed easily preventable by someone who knows what they are doing at service time, if not checked, it will let water into your oil and cause some pretty sad damage, but as mentioned, there is some early warning signs (but not always)

Agree, but it has only recently listed as a service item and I know of one dealer who did not know about this issue till I raised it, just a warning for owners to keep an eye on it, I have had a few boats with Suzuki 140's on and they have given great service, they are a great reliable and fuel efficent motor.

I had mine changed at 100hrs cause it was starting to show corrosion.
Chris Oakley who is a well known suzuki mechanic did my motor and he reckons when flushing a 140 suzzie it needs to be run for about 10 min but at about 2000rpm to open the thermostat.
I always flushed my motor for 10 min but only at idol rpm's.
Now when I flush it at about 2000 rpms I can see the tell tail drop pressure which he reckons means the water is going through the whole motor.

He also told me all 140 suzzie's are the same the only difference is the new models have 2 "O" rings instead of one on the oil cooler.

Hi I hear what you say there is actually 3 internal o rings on the coolers now the old ones actually had the groove for the extra o ring but never fiitted, but the extra o ring will do nothing to stop corrosion, have always flushed my motors till water hot from tell tale and still have had to change coolers, supposed to be different material now but still looks the same to me.

I'll find out on my next service if my new way of flushing worked.
Hope so cause $400 extra every service hurts.
