Japanese squid jigs thisJapanese squid jigs that … Bla Bla Bla …
Every bloody fishing show in OZ is sing their praises. Egi this Egi that?
They retrieve this way … they retrieve that way … technology this … technology that …
Geeeeeeeeeezzzzzzz ????? I’ve been varying retrieves for years from I’m a dead prawn wafting to the bottom to Oooooooooooooooo I’m a scared prawn fleeing the evil squid. You know what? We’ve seen their bloody view on sustainable fishing haven’t we??? Look at their Tuna industry, companies with long-term cold storage with plans to have tuna available when they’re all gone. Not to mention their bloody Fukushima radiation injected fishery. The bloody fishing shows will have millions of’em out here soon.
We got squid off piers with the old white Paulsolen squid jigs by the dozens when I was kid…Rack Off..!!!

Rodtip do you think I would get more Squid with a glow-in-the-dark radio active Japanese Squid jig? Can you recommend a brand?

Yeah, agree a bit, perhaps not so forcefully. wink-fish.gif

I'll add that 10-12 years ago we used to fish for squid with a light rod and cast and retrieve jigs. Everyone laughed and said that we should be using handlines and by doing so you caught more squid cos you could "feel" better....my ar5e! Now look, everyone wouldn't be caught dead without a squid flicking rod. Well, well, well, wll, haven't things changed.

Simple marketing 101 really, create a "perceived" value (e.g. $30) in something that doesn't cost much to produce (e.g. 42c to produce in Taiwan a fancy squid jig with "5h1tta" in it's name somewhere).

Rodtip I guess you handline for everything? Or have you woken up to the fact that technology might help you catch more of your target species and use a rod?

Try something new it won't hurt.

If you think marketing of fishing gear is only the preserve of Japanese squid jigs you better pull that wool away from your eyes.

Nope, not at all, don't get me started on split grip butt sections, another "must have accessory which I still can't work out how it improves a rod. wink-fish.gif wink-fish.gif

What??? I've been using my whiting rods to catch squid for 20yrs. In fact I haven't really altered my methods since I was in my teens. All that's changed is braid has become mainstream, reels have become finer and rods have become finer. The methods are all just variations of the same thing.

They might be able to teach us a little bit about Egi squid fishing. They have been doing it for over 400 years.

I'd listen to someone who has been at something I would like to do for over 400 years.
