Gopro cameras

I have just got myself a gopro, and have seen some footage put on here , my question is what setting (res) are you guys using when marlin fishing, have seen some footage taken on Murryfin (looks great) so I am hoping to shoot some myself next season,

Full hd 1080p pal 25fps wide angle with instant power up mode ON. And dont bother using one underwater until you get a flat lens for the housing as they dont work underwater contrary to the perception they do.

Hi Bait ball,

You probably own the latest models. The ones used in our (Murrifin) videos are the originals that we had set at 1080 and 30 frames per second. Its setting r4 if you have the original.

If you own a new version any setting in 1080 is good. I know they shoot 1080 to 170' wide but it would be best to take it out and mount it in a few locations with the differant HD settings to find a location you like.

You really need two cameras to make a good video with one set up high to capture all the cockpit and the the down in the thick of the action. Either on a head strap or mounted on a pole. I have found the pole cam footage alot better as it's normally more steady.

The best tip I can give you is to program it up once your happy with the settings to ON record. This way any one on the boat can hit the power button and it will start filming straight away. Run the camera in short bursts of 10 minutes or so when the action is happening and then turn it off in between times to avoid the camera overheating in the housing and foging up the lens.

Other then that make sure you use the film and edit it up as there is no point having a hard drive full of great fishing clips that only you can see.

720/60 will give you the smoothest action that you can slow down in edit without loosing quality, there are also a bunch of new plugins for editing that will take out a lot of the wide angle distorsions.

Instant powerup mode is a necessity as Winga has noted.

The standard case has a curved lense cover and this results in underwater video and images being blurry.

There are two options, a replacement lense cover that is flat. There are a few available, the best one probably 'blur fix' but it isn't super cheap when you add the under water filter.

Search gopro blur fix.

The other is to put the gopro into another water proof see through container that has a flat side. This works very well depending on what you already have available it can be free or very cheap with a little DIY.

Thanks Frozenpod, there is a lot to learn. Which model does above and below water without changing cases, eg if the camera was mounted on a stick can it do both jobs with the right housing?
