Honestly how long is a bit of string?

No doubt many would advise something more than twin 55's happy-fish.gif which was very common back in the days when these boats were close to the king of the pile! Today's thinking would tend to laugh at twin 55's but hey how thinking or is that lack of thinking has changed today happy-fish.gif

Test drove a vagabond with twin 140 suzuki's went fairly well even though at maximum transom weight was still a bit bow heavy.

I wouldn't fit anything less than twin 115's 4 strokes.

Kerry I think you are confused with the vagabond and viking which was fitted with small twins.

[b]Thank you all for the feedback. I'm looking on getting one and i'm not sure wich is the best option.
Personaly I like twins for the safety factor but these days 4 stroke engines are very reliable but when you are out there.....
Fuel and maintenance single are better
So these are known factors about twins and singles but i did wanted to know expiriences of people that owns one.

Not that they are unreliable but the latest 4 strokes and DI 2 strokes are less reliable than the current oil injected carby 2 strokes.

Not many people go for twins due to the extra cost but when you are 50km offshore and one motor dies having another motor to get you home is priceless.

Spoken from someone who had twins at the top of the list when looking for a new boat but ended up with a single outboard.

AAHH, the old twins V single again hey, well... here goes my bit, lets start with twins (we assume similar HP, eg 2 X 90 compared to (say) 1 X175) twins will pull a single backwards every day of the week, so for differing loads, and lower planing speeds, twins are better, a single will be much faster, twins will use almost the same amount of fuel as a single (same HP) motor, there is a small advantage in low speed agility at the ramp and so on with twins. Unless you have a complete seperate fuel tank/supply and battery setup, then twins will not give you a huge safety margin (but there is some added safety of course) if one motor fails, don't expect to come home at 25knots, it just aint gunna happen, it will be a slow trip home, but still a heap better than swimming or waiting for a tow! twins will be heavier and will cost more to buy and setup initially, service costs will be higher, but not as much as you think. I kind of doubt I would buy twins on the safety aspect alone, I would buy them because I needed more torgue/oad carrying or I had a boat that needs twins (like a cat) twins look really good, and sound great, well old 2 strokes do, twin 4 strokes sound whimpy, like a pair of sewing machines!it is a big decision, and one you want to get right.
