Not sure what thread it was in or who was asking the question, but a search of the net revealed the following. However, as I never thought about it previously, I spent a bit of time on the net researching the subject.
Here's a couple of links that reflect the general consensus.
First V6 Outboard – 1976 Johnson/Evinrude 200hp
http://www.huntsmarine.com.au/the-history-of-the-outboard-motor
The same is also stated on a number of other websites and web forums.
First Mercury V6 outboard – 1976 175hp (1750)
Mercury serial number guide. There are V6's listed before 1976.
http://www.marineengine.com/mfr/mercury_models.html
I also sent an email off to the company who were listed the 1973 150hp V6 'CD' Service Manual, but no response from them.
If anyone has any information that suggests otherwise, please post here. _________________

Yes it came from the last page of my mouse pad.
Dragged it out of a box full of old manuals covering all sorts of things, don't even recall where half of this stuff came from, half of it's not even mine. Another interesting manual in there is a 1947 4 stroke chainsaw _________________ ** Tomorrow is another day .... oh joy .... what great responses will that bring **

In all fairness Dave, if the rear cover of the manual says that, so be it.
Kerry, can you please have a look inside and see if there is any information specific to a 1973 150hp V6 in it. This will confirm whether the motor existed or if the last page of the manual contains a typographical error.
I am genuinely interested. _________________

Leave that one with me and I will check it out as the size makes a Melbourne telephone book appear a pocket book in comparison. Certainly covers the L6 from that period as that is what it has been used for, one just has to sift through multiple groupings of generic straight engines v the many and varied V configurations back then. _________________ ** Tomorrow is another day .... oh joy .... what great responses will that bring **

| My advice is that if you can get 100/1 about there being a V6 Merc on the market in '73, don't take it, you'll lose the bet. |
