Need advice on a new prop. Not so much brands etc but what size to buy. Don't really understand what the different sizes mean to power, economy etc so hoping someone can explain it to me simply !
Currently running a 14x19 on the Suzuki DF140 on the 610 crusher. I think it's the original one
We are happy with it but the blades are pretty rooted so hard to know how good it should be
Any advice greatly appreciated. Cheers |

Do you load the boat up or run light?
Were you happy with the hole shot?
Do you get around 15L/hr, I was getting 12L/hr on a different hull.
I think the original was Al. 3 blade supplied by Solas to Haines.
Speed around 10K/HR per 1000 revs?
Not towing skiers?
Step into a 3 blade stainless, same pitch if you are encountering sand.
Very simply 14 stands for 14" prop diameter and 19 stands for the distance, in inches(theoretically) the prop would move the boat forward, for one rotation of the prop, lower number than that and the boat has a lower gearing so more grunt, more revs and lower top speed.
Ideally the prop should allow the motor to rev to its specified maximum rev range when the boat is normally loaded. |

The "factory" was actually a Solas prop but it wasn't all that bad, performance wise, and if you aren't in bad going, there's not a lot wrong with the original aluminium prop as they're a damn sight cheaper than S/S. |

So a 14x22 would give a higher top speed but less in the hole shot etc ?
Not skiing behind it and don't need to race off the line |

Top speed more, yes and no.
You will probably find the top speed will be slightly higher but the WOT RPM will be less and possibly over load your engine. |

| Never had a boat fancy enough to warrant the effort, but here in my armchair I am lead to believe the right pitch should see the motor running at the correct RPM. Too high a pitch and the motor will be put under more load than it needs to be. |

Knowing the motor and the boat, I think that a 22" would make the motor really struggle, like trying to drive a car round in overdrive. The 19" is a good all round pitch.
Every prop has to be a compromise and cover all load situations. |
