Just inquiring I anyone has fitted lectrotabs and what is your verdict?
Reason I ask I went out a few times one up on the weekend in the barcrusher, and I'm not the lightest bloke (110kg) and even with the bait tank full and even a 20lt esky full of water it would still list if I was in the drivers seat.
It is a surtees/new zealand built barcrusher, and they designed them with only one battery in mind so with dual battery's they both end up on the starboard side, with the bait tank on the port side. It's okay with a mate or two on board, but not on my own. The only other thing I could think to do is ballast the port side with weights/sandbags etc but that's a bit rough.
I'm asking in regards to lectrotabs because they offer aluminum tabs, and I would like to prevent electrolysis anyway I can.
Also bonzer has em for $900 with the indicator/self returning switch.

Cheers for the link, The price is certainly right on those lencos, however I'm just a bit worried about electrolysis regarding mounting stainless to aluminum .
Also the addy is bonzerimports.com
I am planning to fit them myself, if anyone has any tips that would make the job easier/simpler I would be most appreciative

I would have a look at how they have been fitted. First set I had I mounted them so the plates were pretty much paralell with the bottom of the hull. Rarely needed to use lots of tab and got effect very early in their range.
The second set was factory fitted and the rear of the tab is quite a bit higher than the hull of the boat. I dont seem to get much effect until several lights have lit up on the controls.
The manual says to mount them this way but in my case it seems as though I have lost a fair bit of useful range. _________________

I don't think a barcrusher would be any good without them. |

I have them on my bc 560. They were fitted by so called pro. I had to use more than 50% before they would actually make any effect. Got them refitted now extremely effective from the first stage.
As always weight distribution needs no be considered and moved accordingly but with the tabs now I can have live bait filled Big esky behind driver’s seat with me only on board and it rides level with adjusting tabs. Very happy with them _________________ Life is like a fish milkshake |

Thank you everyone for your help, alot good info there, but with boats being boats it's never so easy, after taking a look at the back of the boat, it seems surtees never considered tabs back in 01 when they built the boat. There is a raised plate either side of the pod for transducers around 120mm wide and my transducer sits on one of them, unlike the Melbourne built barcrusher's with two raised plates From the pod to the sides, with enough room for tabs plus the transducer(s).
So now it's either a matter of taking back the paint and welding on some solid aliminium plate, say 12mm and drilling, tapping and bolting the tabs on, or getting some raised 3mm fabricated and having that welded on, either way it looks like a bit of work an I'm not really looking foward to having to repaint it.
If anyone has any suggestions I'm all ears

For what it is worth guys the tabs should be able to go nice and high.
At times you will want to run your boat as if it didn't have trim tabs at all.
An experienced boat builder told me they should be level with the hull at approximately 30% down position. This will still give heaps of range for further control.
This works out about right in my experience and some tab manufactures instructions reflect this |
