He does not know what he is talking about.
Boat motors are made to be ion the water, it is natural that they will get wet(not submerged)
Engine life depends on the operator, how well he services it, how well he cleans it after use.
I had 150 Yam 2 stroke that did well over 6000 hours with no major work in that time frame. Then another bloke might only get 1000 hours if he does not look after it.

Big hint mate. Beware of this place, lots of "know it alls" who spend countless hours giving ill informed advice (the ones with thousands of posts who have nothing better to do), they are the ones that need a good stirring up from time to time, they bite worse than white pointers, funny as hell to see the reactions....... laughing-fish.gif

jeez-what did you use it for to get 6000 hrs on it?
Thatd be great going, seems to be the norm that gearboxes get to 2-3000 hrs and need a rebuild at least, 2 or 4 stroke.

Big hint #2

Your comment applies equally to the low post count members sharing their opinion too. One day, their posts might also be high if they continue to contribute to other members topics in here.

But then, you expected that reply, right?!!

Cats do suck water throught the intake system when on the plane, this is a small mist that does damage, thats why cats owners install snorkels.

Cripes thats good going, I do between 200 - 250 hrs a year and i thought that was good going, that would take me 24yrs to clock up that many hours, maybe i need to get out more laughing-fish.gif

I know the gear box on my old Yammie saltwater series was shagged at 980 hours. It was going top cost more to replace the gear box than the motor was worth.

My mate owned the boat prior to me and he did charters out of it. The boat was used 3 or 4 times a week and clocked up the hours quite quickly.
Have some ab diver friends with Yam 2 strokes and the motors they have on at the moment have done around 4500 with no issues.
For the average fisho, these hours would be highly unlikely in a life time of fishing. I know I only do around 100 per year, that would mean I would have to use the boat for 60 years before clocking those figures. Corrosion would be the issue long before motor wear in that case.

DougGrant.... sure did! Getting a bite means using the right bait........
