This might be a realy stupid question for some, but can horse hair be used as a substitute for bucktail??? if yes or no what are the disadvantages.

Horse hair wouldn't make a very good bucktail sub - too fine and wirey - wrong type of texture wink-fish.gif

Synthetics like Slinky fibre and unique hair work better as a bucktail Sub - BUT I still preffer to use bucktail in my flies most of the time as it "swims better " wink-fish.gif

Hi Scott
Maybe I didnt explain myself properly, I ment the horses mane or tail hair, just like humans, horses main/tail hair can be fine or course some times with a natural crinkle and closely resembles bucktail.....
