Hi Ben,I have been tying my own flies for about 2 years. The best fly I have tyed was a Royal Humpy that caught 3 fish in one day.I have also caught plenty on my nymphs, but the Humpy was very satisfying as I have found it harder to ty dry flies.

| Shane I am taken in by that "better to die on your feet thing". Have you ever been in a dying position. Well, having been there, I can tell you living, however you do it is a lot better than being dead. Unless of course you end up a veg. And it, dying, hurts, badly. Very nasty feeling dying. I'm rather glad I stopped doing it at the right time. Max |

Ben,
Just after I arrived in Darwin I was camping on one of the remote Billabongs for a week. I had yet to catch a Barra on fly and this week was dedicated to achieving that milestone. I had been there three days and had seen heaps of barra and had loads of follows but couldn't convince the fish to take. It was all getting terribly frustrating
I had noticed that white flies were attracting more attention and that flies on the surface were similarly attractive (but not enough to have a chew on).
I sat down in camp and decided to tie up a white dahlberg diver. I might point out that at this time I had never spun deer hair but had read about it. Anyway, I tied up this terribly ratty, untidy and altogether uninspiring dahlberg. The next morning I took it to the water and that day caught 14 legal sized barra on that one fly. I still have it but don't use it anymore. I keep it as a momento of my first fly caught barra.

G'Day
Been tying for about 4 years and have come up with many un named flies, but my favs always seem to be seasonal. At the moment my fav is a cicada and my gurgling cricket, just love watching them get smashed out of the water at Manly Dam with a few good size bass on the end of them

Hi fellow fly tiers
My best fly that I have tied would be this mayfly pattern with an extended body, made from foam. It floats really well and worked very well in Europe but I have not tried it here.
My best salt water fly would be a size 6 prawn pattern, it look so real and also works.
