exactly. somehow i think there will be a few questions asked by the insurer as to why there were no lights on such a large bouy which should have working lights on it. |

I have been out fishing in PPB in pea soup conditions
and I travelled to a spot at 5knots all the way as I couldnt see more
than about 20feet in any direction the fog lifted at about 11am
and I found that a mate was fishing only about 30feet from me
but we couldnt see each other till the fog lifted
I could hear other boats flying past and wondered why
anyone would go so fast in those conditions
I wonder if speed and poor visibility were a factor in this case
I hope the people are OK

G'day folks,
Sorry to be so slow to respond on this topic as it happend over 9 days ago, but you see being the passenger in this boat, I was only released from hospital today!!
I'll try to be honest and frank when answering questions but this is now a legal matter and I don't have all the answers.
BACKGROUND
We (me and driver) left ilmeburners at about 4.45 am on Sun 17 June for a quick morning session on the whiting. Weather and visisbility where as clear as they normally are for that time in the morinig. Speed is a good question...skipper reackons 15 knots ish but hard to say.
After that i am not sure.....i have no memory until i woke up in intensive care on the following tuesday arvo.
Both of have major fractures to jaw areas, missing teeth and a slight headache!
Skipper was operated on last week and sent home a bit worse for where.
As for the boat. Yes it was 4.8m and worth about half what they have estimated.
We both had life jackets on and that probabply saved some serious chest fractures.
And NO....the channel marker was not lit....funnily enough it was gone a couple of days later.
Thank you all for your concern and feel free to ask any questions. _________________ I don't fish to live....I live to fish!

good to see your both ok, well at least are going to be ok
did either of u see the marker or did u just plough straight into it? ive had my back turned in a boat when driver has stopped fast and that put me on my butt, i cant imagine the feeling of hitting something unexpectedly and stopping dead in water, be just like a car accident id suppose, i can imagine u guys thinking "what the f*** was that?"
if u were unconscious your m8 saved your life , u need to buy him a beer or 10! thank god u obeyed laws and wore your life jackets for the size of boat AND for travelling at night, oh reason marker was gone is u obliterated it! |
