| Just saw the news. A boat has hit a big channel marker at "Geelong?" I think. Lets hope they're not too badly hurt & hope they weren't Fishnetters. |

yeah just heard it too. it was in Corio Bay, so yeah Geelong. They are in the Barwon Hospital, suffering from head and back injuries.
They hit a big channel marker at just before 5am this morning. Apparently the lights on the channel marker were NOT working.
Not sure if they were fishnetters, i hope not. |

| I spotted that channel marker yesterday when I was out on Corio Bay. It was already damaged and had no lights - Not sure how it got into such bad condition in the first place - Can understand how they hit it this morning, considering the lack of lights and possibly fog. |

Don't think it would be a Fishnetter. The boat looked a bit plain, no rochet launchers or anything like that.
You Vic's that are on Fishnet seem to like having a lot of shiny metal on your boats .
Terrible thing to happen and i hope those involved are OK.

Channel Nine Melbourne broadcast picture of the boat. After the collision it had been tied to the beacon at the bow end and was just hanging there sunk up to the cuddy cab. Not good for boat but the good news was they were able to radio for help and got rescued.
Makes one wonder if a foward pointing search light might be a good investment when under way. Unlit object are a real danger at night. _________________ Lostatsea |

GPS is fine until its dark ,foggy or there are other vessels in the vicinity!!!!

| I think the channel markers in Corio Bay are being replaced at the moment, as new markers have been erected around all of the old ones and now the old ones are being demolished... the news also said the boat was worth over $70k... |

no daylight and the possibility of fog , its frightening to think of hitting
something that big without even knowing it was there.. There lucky they
could get to the radio, could have ended up a lot worse. _________________

I didnt hear it was worth $70k. I heard it was a 4.8m boat, so unlikely to be $70k, anyway. |
