These are some of the perch caught on a rugged back country trek down a small creek with evil
After cracking the sh*ts, throwing the fly rod down, storming off, i notice out of the corner of my eye a shallow spot we could wade and get a back cast without getting caught in the trees. we useally release the fish but keep these few for a bbq. Caught around 25 but lost so much more.

One fine day, when it was pissing down with rain and Dobbie was wearing shorts, we took a mates boat to an undisclosed location of the Hopkins River. Dobbie and I chose to flyfish from the bank whilst the other 2 mates fished from a magnificent MakoCraft which had a fish sidescanner, casting deck and an assorted tackleshop on board. The day was tranquil, with quacking ducks, mooing cows and Dobbo swearing and screaming louder than Jimmy BARNES, after consequtive voodoo casts into the shrubs behind him. His great plan was to attack the shrubs with his feet and flyrod until they gave up catching his fly. I managed to hook a small bream and my loyal friend had walked off down the river after his best impersonation of an olympic javelin thrower using his Redington CPS as a spear. A few minutes later I saw my friend at the top of the bank doing hand impersonations resembeling Helen KELLER at a frantic pace. He was only standing 10 feet from me, but he still didnt want the fish around the bend to hear him. I assumed that he inherited that tactic from endless hours of stalking deer. I pulled in my line and followed my mate to a small clearing where the fish were busting up on the surface.
We started to hook up nearly straight away and almost everycast, much to the delight of the plastic/lure fisherman who was stading closer to the fish without a single hit. He left shortly after. The EP's hit like steam trains, most of them in their 40's with nothing under 37 cm. We began taking phone photos and sending them to our mates in the boat with huge grins on our faces, but not telling them where we were. It was the best EP session we ever had, because not only were the fsh big and tough, but it required a fair bit of skill to muscle them away from a reef and weed in the first few seconds of the fight or else it was mostly over.
Happy and grinning like Cheshire Cats we threaded the perch on an impressive stick and marched towards our rendezvous point. As we sighted our other mates on the boat we heard "Cheeky bastards".
Not only did they continue fishing but left us waiting near a wasps nest , much to the delight of Dobbo whose blood pressure was raising every second and continously whispering "wasps, wasps, I think thats a nest there, they better hurry up, I hate wasps, look at all those wasps, wasps can kill you, you know.". I love my mate. He is great to have in any emergency as he is usually that switched on that he will recite every possible way you can die in that particular situation. Finally we borded the boat and told the other 2 mates lies about where we caught them. I think they knew we lied, bu there was nothing they could do about it.
Thanks Dobbo for finding the fish and yes you are a great fisherman, but not as good as your dad! lol. You are a FET!!! _________________ If it feels good....., do it!!!

Guys I'm very impressed with your skill and your catch, but please don't post a pic of 10 dead EPs - it looks like was a really bad day for the fish.
I also keep the occasional fish for the BBQ - so I understand where you are coming from. This species is still relatively abundant, so your catch and kill is not a train smash, but it would be nice to keep the populations healthy and promote respect for the fish among other fishos.
You obviously have these fish worked out and you can show better leadership by avoiding these pics of the big 'haul' - a couple of pics of the fish alive when you caught them, even better of the ones you were releasing would be far more pleasing and pretty for us to see.
Thanks

Dear William, I am so sorry for hurting your feelings and offending the rest of the world. Please allow me to explain. We go fishing nearly everyday of the week because of the proximity of the river to our residence. Everyday we catch lots of fish sometimes up to 100 a day. I have been fishing this river for 8 years and have never ever kept or eaten a perch and have only kept 1 bream for my elderly neighbour, 3 YEARS AGO!!.( Actually we had to try it as "Sashimi", I don't know why I lied.)
I regularly pay for my fishing licence and keep it current. I make sure I don't leave rubbish near waterways and sometimes clean up after others. On this occassion we kept 10 fish between 4 anglers to have a BBQ. Thats 2.5 fish per angler after 8 years.
Each angler has about 3.5 members in his immediate family. Thats roughly 14 people and 10 fish. That means 4 family members missed out on the BBQ!!.
The guilt is already killing me. I hope you understand and forgive us William. _________________ If it feels good....., do it!!!

Sorry william dont know what i was thinking, but not one of these fish will go to waste. As chuky said we useally dont keep the fish out of the river. I try to keep a stock of prime saltwater table fish from the deep. And yes it does piss me of seeing people down here taking bag after bag each day in such a small river system. but enough of that just trying to tell you the colourfull 2 hours we had. Will be going back their today and all the fish will be going back in the water. _________________ Nothing wakes me up faster than a fifty screaming |
