Heading to Christchurch next week to do the CamperHome thing for 8 days. Travelling up the east coast to Picton then across to Nelson and down the west coast back to Queenstown, Travelling with 6 wt and light spin.
Does anyone have any info for me or great spots I MUST fish - i am not a huge fan of lakes and will stick to smaller rivers etc.
Thanks in advance. |

Sorry mate I have only seen this post! Hope you had a great trip and with any luck you discovered that N.Z. have many streams and rivers that flow into pristine lakes full of aggressive rainbows that will educate you about light drags AND browns that will make your knees shake when they cruise past a meter from shore!
A mayfly hatch being washed into the lake with fish slashing all over them and back into the depths is just so tasty to enjoy. I had 2LB rainbows bust me up with ease often enough. These fish would tail walk out into the lake and more often than not pull the hook.
We are talking about years ago when I was teaching myself on a sinking line and the resistance in the water gave these fish a huge advantage.
God I miss Queenstown fishing. Having said that the river fishing is tops and the speed of the water will work for the fish more than not. |
